Default How many of you BOWHUNT ONLY guys avoid the woods during gun season?

I have never taken a gun in the woods other than a sidearm for protection. I have always been bowhunt only. I used to avoid the woods during gun season. The neighboring properties are coverev up in orange vests, and I wlways just assumed the pressure was to much... But as I look out the window and see snow on the ground and 20 degree weather... I cant wait to get out and I think I may suck it up and head out. I was just wondering if I am the only one who ever took a break during gun season?

I rarely hunt during gun season. When I do, I stay on my fathers property where there is little pressure on the surrounding properties. Like you, there are times when I just can't help it and the weather just looks too perfect and I wake up from a strange coma-like state and find myself 20' up a tree with my bow.....

SAme here. People wondering around "still hunting" on surrounding lands with guns always seem to get some deer moving.

    Default Jim?

If your hunting deer, why bring a side arm? I've hunted bear the last 2 years in minnesota, First year used muzzle loader. Last year only brought 2 bows, so a guy can not cheat, last day thing and have to shoot something for the camera! I can see having a side arm, if ya ae hunting over bait, for your deer, OR JUST SCARED OUT OF YOUR *** TOO GO INTO THE WOODS, Suckes to be you you, carring extra weight into the woods. Can it help with gutting?

I have carried my 38 into the woods, usually if I am heading into unfamiliar woods. I am a big chicken, and I dont want to be caught without protection if I run into a saskquatch.

But more recently I have been hunting with killemclean... and I no longer need a sidearm... because I am certain I can run faster than him.

I used to bowhunt during the rifle season as we didn't have a separate bow season here originally. When we choose archery now that is the only way we get to hunt and cannot go out during modern firearm season. So yes I'm bow only, the challenge is why I hunt, not just to shoot something. I did go without venison in the freezer for a while until I got the hang of it though.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not
me, I want people to know "why" I look this way. I've
traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

My family land is surrounded by gun hunters that like to blow the woods up. I am the only one who hunts our property so I like to bowhunt out there during the rifle season. Less pressure on it no guns going off on it, so the deer really like my property after the guns start popping off.

Our lease as well, is surrounded by leases with gunhunters on them and while we hear rifles popping from time to time, especially early in the season, we still stick to our bow only rules. We see lots of deer on our place all season long. We haven't even shot anything yet as its just been too hot. Texas deer season should be pushed back a month.
