My units hold some excellent elk on public land. I hunt in units 70, 71, 711, 72 & 73 during archery season. In my opinion the best time to hunt elk is in late September up high!

Hopefully the temperatures won't be in the 80's this September like they were last year. I heard one Elk bugle the whole week and it was on the first day. Unit 411 was a bust and it on my parade.

Question for you Colorado Outfitter. Lets say you are hunting with a guide and he is set up 40 yards down from you calling. You as the hunter hear hoofs coming your way but are not actually sure if they are in front of you or behind you. You get ready for a shot nevertheless. Then behind you comes 3 cows and a 5x5 but they stop behind some thick brush at 30 yards. You know they are there and are at full draw waiting for them to walk into a clearing for a shot. At this point the guide is in the brush 10 yards from the Elk. What would you do as the guide???

I would hope that my hunter would follow the first basic rule of hunter safety. And have enough commen sense to not shoot an arrow in my direction!! There is no animal worth a human life!

I don't disagree with you. Lets say that the Elk were not in a straight line between hunter and guide but rather at a 45 degree angle. Yardages used are for examples only. I'm sure you have run into people that disreagard safety but I'm not talking about a hunter shooting in your direction. You as the guide are hidden in the brush so what's your next move? Do you call, basically on top of the animals or just wait back and see what they do???

I would be as quite as possible and wait to see if the elk move into an opening for my hunter to make a clear shot. If the elk started to spook I would then cow call to make them stop again. Hoping when they stop the second time my hunter could make an ethical shot!
