    Default Spine calc ?

Does anyone now of a online spine calculator ? One of my local archery shops is giving me a free dozen arrows ( Maximas or Gold Tips , my choice ) . Ive looked at the charts on both and there a bit contradicting ... Also where exactly are the ,measurements made > Ive always just measured from the end of the cut end of the shaft.. For example , if the chart says 28" then its 28" from end of nock to cut end .

I believe charts and ot2 both go on a strictly carbon measurement.....therefore a 28" arrow would be measured from cut end to cut end!

Unless things have changed over the years, I have always gone by the throat of the nock to the end of the arrow or end of the insert for determined length.

That is the way I always measure also T10. I am pretty sure there isn't a standard though, some people measure carbon-carbon, and end of nock to end of insert. None of the aforementioned methods make logical sense IMO.

To the OP general rule of thumb 60# .400, 70# .350/.340, 80# .300 spine. Now other things do come into play like DL, CAM System, arrow length, tip weight, fletching weight, nock weight, insert weight, if you use an arrow wrap or not etc. Those items effect your dynamic/static spine. Programs like OT2 etc get you in the ballpark most times, but the only solid way of determining your perfect spine is trial and error and tuning the spine of your arrow to your bow.

Thanks for the posts guys and yes BlindBuck I agree ,,, I have a few threads on spine tuning Ive done while trouble shooting some issyes I had last yr ... It just gets darn expensive if you dont start out the right way like cutting your arrows to short etc etc .. All my bows are 70lbers and I think Im going with the free carbon express maximas the shop has offered me , the 350s cut at 38" look like they will be a great start for bare shaft / bh tuning .

OT2 does indeed go carbon to carbon when measuring arrow length, but if you go to the throat of the nock I don't think you will notice much of a difference.
