My first doe was when I got hooked full out heck with rifles defining moment in archery. It was the heaviest doe ever killed on my dads property at 148#. Most bucks there dont weigh as much as that doe did.

Whats really cool is I have been present on 2 members defining moments. That hunt in Oklahoma was and always will be one of the funnest trips I have ever been on. Be very hard to top it this year, but we will try. And take some more pics this time also.

Jeff, it was cool to be there when Meat got that buck. Aint nobody on the earth that could have wiped that smile off your face or Meat's face.

I cant put a finger on it... I dont think I have a defining moment, this totally sucks. Everybody here has a great story except for me...

edit- Actually I have one! ...and its great! ...but it would prolloby get deleted, so im not typing a 3 paragraph awe inspiring story just to have it go poof.

As a hunter in general......when I was hunting rabbits on the mountain behind my parents' house during Christmas break from college. I was just coming out on the other side of a dark and lonely personal time in my life and was finally feeling right again. I kicked a rabbit out of the brush and rolled it with a clean shot at 10 yards out of a full choke 20 gauge Remington 870. The satisfaction of the hunt, the sunset colors on a snow covered mountain, the weight of a rabbit in my game pouch, and the feeling that I knew I was going to be OK made me realize hunting was more than just a hobby for me.

As a deer hunter.......I had never connected on a deer, doe or buck, until taking a trip to Potter County PA with my buddy and his dad for the PA firearms season in 2001. While two guys in our party were searching for a buck one of them had dropped inside the woodline, they pushed a 1.5 year old 7 pointer out and it was running full tilt across the open field. Being so uneducated about deer hunting aside from what I read in F&S magazines, I reacted on instinct, ran down to the edge of the crest of the hill I was sitting on, and tracked the buck in my scope. He turned from right to left at about 75 yards and I cracked one off. He ran out of sight, I walked down the hill to see where he ran from the place I last saw him, and then looked over to see him breathe his last. I knew that first deer was more about luck than skill but it ignited a fire in me I didn't know existed.

As a bowhunter.......I took a week off work in 2007 to hunt the tailend of October into the 1st week of November. After changing morning stand spots on 10/29, I was puilling my bow up into the stand and it somehow came unhooked from the tow line. The bow dropped 10 feet onto the bottom cam and bounced up before dropping to the leaves. Fearing the worst, I climbed down to see my bottom limb split in two places. Luckily I had a backup bow and was back at it the next day. I couldn't stay late and as I was climbing down and leaving, I got busted by a doe at 30 yards while I packed my stuff. PO'd at my two days in a row of bad luck, I said the **** with tomorrow. Well tomorrow came (Halloween) and I said I took this week off for a reason and I can't kill anything sitting at home. I dropped our son of at school and got settled in my stand by 10:30am. 20 minutes later, I had my first bow-killed buck on the ground, and 8 point 100 inch 2.5 yeard old. Because of that hunt, I no longer give up or give in. I hunt until the calendar says I need to stop.

Thanks Sean. I'm glad you could be a part of it. That moment will stay with me forever. Not sure if Meat realized how proud of him I was but I sure do know how happy he was that day and the several following. Him taking that buck meant more to me than any animal I've ever taken that's for sure.

    ...like thats gonna happen.

Ya know, I dont think my story would even come close to offending the vast majority...including women and kids. I actually think women here would love it and the kids would both laugh and learn from it. I really REALLY think the only people that might take offense to it are the stale old farts that 'think' it might offend a woman or be bad for a kid.

This might be my new defining moment... Im gonna start putting the boring old judgemental fuddyduddies here on blast. Let this be your warning; if you're old and you just sit around on the comp complaining about every little thing thats not perfectly PC or not like it was back 1950, im gonna call you out on it...im gonna let the majority here know that such-n-such is an angry old prick that has taken it upon himself to become the fun police. I will eat my warnings and bans...but you will be outted and everybody here will hate and wish death upon you. fwiw...

Anyhow, my old defining moment basically starts out with archery and bffs...then quickly dives into bffs sisters, fantasys becoming reality, insecurity, performance anxiety, awkwardness, aching loins,...and ends with me finishing myself and running out the house into a thunderstorm where I kneel down, reach up to the heavens, and cry out "Why Hath Thou Forsaken Me!".
