    Question Your Defining Moment

Saw this post on FB and thought it was quite thought provoking.....and since my posts are usually considered "obscene", I thought I'd take a stab at something with some merit.....And get to know some of these newbs that I'm not allowed to bash anymore

So anyway......What is or has been your defining moment as an Archer/bowhunter?

I have to honestly say for me it was October 2nd 2011, when I harvested a nice Pronghorn with my GTO at 60 yards. The best shot I ever made and changed the way I think about archery and bowhunting. Not too mention it was prolly the best hunt of my life

I have had several other moments that made me evolve as a hunter, but this one stands out the most for me.

Hey I'm game, let it begin..

Me it was Oct. 2006, the year my son was born, was my best year to date. He was and is my lucky charm. Born in June, he came 7 weeks early and only 3lbs, fully developed never needed help, but had to stay in Hostpital til he gained 1lb before we took him home. For my area, western Md alot of Mnt's and alot of hunters who hunt for meat and not for size, so a 120' buck around here is a monster. Well thats what came running accross a field leading 6 doe's right by me. He held up at 40+ yds but he came to the doe's as they were calm and never knew I was there, 17yd shot. He hind kicked like a mule, ran 20 or so yds, stopped looked back like what the heck bit me, turned to walk away 2 steps then down and out. With or without pictures in the field that day, no video, my memory is still the best I have of that day, just like it happend yesterday. This is my homemade euro mount, I didn't take care back then like I should have and dont have the money for a pro to do the work, so this spring while shed hunting, I found a dead buck's skull, took off his small head gear and mounted my own, I'm ok with it.

First archery kill is always a turning point.......and honestly joining this forum has changed me as an archer as well, bought an Elite, completely changed my set up and learned a lot about better equiptment. Increased my killing power by 43.2%

well after 35 years of bowhunting i used to think that some of the most defining moments were some of the big deer that i actually never got to shoot, great lessons learned though, but after last years season when my 7 year old son killed his first deer, a 7 point, with his cross bow and to hear a little kid scream out "Smoked Him" while watching the deer fall over less than a 30 yard run. Not only defining.....it was priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought i was addicted, this kid has got it bad, had a baseball game saturday, it was time to leave, couldn't find him. He had constructed a blind behind the garage in the fence row and was shooting black birds.

My defining moment so far when it comes to bow hunting........was the purchase of my z28 and joining this forum as well as taking my first 2 deer with my bow last season. Felt good to shoot the bow and have it hit the target and do its job. The season before I was an awful shot with my martin.
