    Question 2010 GT500 Cams/Mods

I just recently traded a bow for a gt500. I had a 2008.5 model before, it was a great bow. But to me it had a short valley and was not at the actual draw length. Now the gt I am receiving has 28" mods, I'm right around 29". I guess my question is, when i get different mods, which ones do I get? How much can a guy twist/untwist string and cables to get a comfortable draw and still have a good valley?

If I got the 29" mods, and if the bow is truely 29" then it should be pretty comfortable to me. I could maybe go just a little bit longer (maybe 1/8" to 1/4"). Can the bow be adjusted by that much and still be in a shootable spec? Or should I look at the 29.5" mods?

And the really big question, is there a good chance of finding the mods I need in the trading post, or should I try to find the DLS rev cams on the older model gt's? If I get the older model cams, do I need to change the string and cable lengths? I called Elite and they want $60 for a new set of mods, I don't want to spend that kind of money, espescially when I have a set I can trade with.

Get the 29 inch mods they run really close to actual measurements. You might find a set in the trading post but Elite or a dealer should hook you up also.
String and cables are the same for all draw lengths with the rev cams.
No ifs and or buts Just maybee.

I also have a 2010 GT500 (both 60# limbs & 50# limbs), and with a 27 1/2" DL (Rev #6 cams). Checking the DL on the draw board indicates a 27 1/2" DL when the bow is set to specs: DW, ATA, BH, Tiller, draw stop posts all the way in & with the rest draw cord on & set with the rest being full up ~ 1/2"-3/4" before full draw. By moving the posts all the way out the DL increases by ~ 3/8" and doing that also increases the valley & reduces the holding weight, exactly what I want.

Hope this helps. This is a great bow!

Yes thank you, if this bow is better than the 2008.5 I used to have then I cannot wait to get it set up and ready to go.

Another question, if I have the draw stops all the way out with a #3 mod, that is where 29" should be, right? Do you time the cams to be the same or do you set the top cam a hair faster? What seems to work the best?

I set both of my cams to be the same (within 1/2 cable twist)

I'm not sure where your headed with the question about where the 29" should be, but if you get the #3 Rev mods (29") & then move the posts all the way out, that would get you DL that is probably too long, but it would result in a longer valley & less holding weight. Alternatively, you could consider a #4 Rev cam (28 1/2" DL) & then move the posts all the way out. This would get you close to 29" DL & with a longer valley & less holding weight. Might be better to be a bit short rather than too long. Just my nickel!

I'm asking where the draw stop needs to be, to set the draw at 29", all the way in, all the way out, in the middle, etc. I've downloaded and read through the owner's manual, I can not find where this information is given. I understand that they need to be set to fit the individual's needs, but I guess I looking for a starting point, I can not remember from my last GT if there are marks or any kind of label on the cam itself.

I am just guessing here, but I assume that the correct draw length should be attained @80% let off.

On my answer that is just a smidge off the longest setting, moving the stops all the way out I get about 85% and 1/4" long.

If you have a 29" Rev#3 mod, the 29" DL should be at 29" when the bow is set to specs (Cam timing/ATA/DW/BH/Teiller) & the posts are all the way in. This should result with a 29" DL, everything to specs, & with the posts in. Once the bow is set to these criteria, then the DL will be further increased if you move the posts out. That is why I was suggesting you could get the Rev #4 mods (28 1/2") so you could set everything to a 28 1/2" DKL, then move the posts out to max to get ~29" DL. Better a touch short on the DL than too long. Don't forget to have the rest cord attached when timing the bow.

I should have read your post from a few days ago a few more times, it all clicked. Sorry to be a pain but I got it now. I just received the bow last night, it already has #4 mods on it so I will get my new string/cable set and start getting it set up to see if I really need to go to the #3 mods or if the 4's will work. Thanks for your responses.
