Headed down to Florida for my first Osceola hunt. I was hunting on private ground. I drove 20 hours down there and got set up at 5:30pm on Monday. I started calling and got a response. This bird gobbled a TON. I was fired up. I kept calling but he wouldnt budge. I quit calling to him for like 15 minutes. He got curious and moved closer and sounded off. I could tell he moved so I started working him again. He responded and started to come in. It took him about an hour but he finally made it to where I could see him. He came in about 30 yards and I had an open shot but I decided to wait to try and get him closer in. I had the decoys set up at 8 yds like usual and when he came in he was cautious and leary. He got to 23 yards and I decided I better shoot or he might just leave on me. I had a clear shot and let the PURE do its job. I thought I hit him a tad low but the result was he crashed 30 yards away. I got out of the blind and checked out my first Osceola. He was amazing. He had a reddish and green hue like I have never seen and his wing feathers were almost black. He had 11" beard, 7/8" spurs and weighed 18lbs 7oz. I was extremely happy and called my wife to tell her I was on the way home. She just laughed. I drove nonstop home and it took me 17 hours. 37 hours of driving and 2 hours of hunting. I think I have a problem. Now onto the rest of my bow slam this year.
