    Default Handheld Release Shooters

I read an article in Peterson's Bowhunting today about the proper hand position to use for a hand held (or thumb) release.
According to this guy, I'm doing it wrong.
I shoot a Pro Diamond Extreme and put the back of my hand against my face with the knuckles of my pointer finger and middle finger at the corner of my jawbone. My little finger up. It seems to be pretty good so far. I've done it this way for 5 years or better.
The guy that wrote the article says you should hold your hand the same as you would a wrist release.
With the back of your hand flat and facing upward and anchoring with your pointer finger knuckle behind the jawbone.
    What???
How does everyone do it? My way or the article's way?
If you hold your hand in the later position, how's it working for you?

I have always done it the article way....never understood why people used the other method. I always thought I was doing it wrong because everyone else I see uses your method Geno. In any event I do not think either technique is right or wrong it is all about what feels and works best for each individual.

What month is the article in? Would like to see his reasoning behind it. For me it allows my back muscles to pull through the shot better.

Use to do it like you Geno. It was easier to lower my shooting elbow and make the release go off kinda like relaxing enough for it to fire.
I spent some years at this and found flat is the best way to stay honest for me. I do know going from up to flat changes POI. I had a long road of left to rights before I figured that one out. Shooting a loop I just think its better if you dont twist it with the release head.

Steve, I'm just always looking for a better way to do things. Self Improvement by self infliction!! LOL!
There are SOME times when I don't think I've hit my anchor just right. If your way is more consistent then I want to try it.
I have the magazine at work, but I think it's this months. It has the new equipment reviews in it.

Can someone post a pic of them shooting in the flat position?? I have always shot with the back of my hand in the vertical position!! I think I would be afraid of my hunting jacket causing a misfire!?!? Hmmm!?!?

I wondered about that Rick. The head of my release swivels, but sometimes I hear it creak as I flatten the back of my hand against my jaw.

i guess i'm a tweener? i don't like it with my hand flat against my cheek and i don't like it with my hand horizontal.
i do put my pointer finger first knuckle behind my jaw bone under the ear lobe but my hand feels better at a 45 degree not with the back of it against my head.i do keep my elbow straight, or as straight as i can get it, chest slightly pushed out.

That's the way my hand naturally sits at the initial movement, but I have to rotate my hand to lay flat on my face.
It takes an extra second or two to do it. I'm sure that's not a good thing.
