    Default Bear Cubs

I thought you guys might like to see what I got to do today. A couple of weeks ago a co-worker and I found a bear den while we were marking timber for a timber sale. He thought he heard newborn cubs nursing on the sound asleep sow. I called the local WCO to see if he wanted to tag the sow and possibly the cubs. Since the cubs were just born he elected to wait as long as possible before he thought they would leave their den. After a quick check to make sure they were still there yesterday, today was the day we went out to tag, age and sex them. For some reason the first tranquilzing dart didn't take hold on the sow and it took another dose to get her to sleep.
Here are all three of her cubs, which all appeared quite healthy. Due to how small they were, we didn't handle them at all so no ear tags for these guys.

Here is mom getting her tooth pulled to be aged. A really nice looking sow that had an estimated weight of 149lbs.

    Cool find.
I saw a lot of cubs this year. Kinda frustrating only seein sows with cubs when you got a tag.
