Default Answer Strings All Twisted Up

So I finally got my new 123 limbs for the answer (old ones had pretty bad lines) and I got down to serious tuning. My 60x strings had the bow right on AtA and brace but draw was 1/4" long, max weight was 3# short and it peaked at almost 7 1/4".

As a side note, the stock strings weren't much better but I never messed with them since I was waiting on the new threads from 60X.

To make a long story short, I've got the bow now maxing at 65.5#, AtA is 33 5/16, brace 6 15/16", DL spot on @ 28.5 and it's peaking at just a tad over 6 1/2". Draw feels great holding weight is right around 11# and it's shooting lights out.

BUT....I had to twist and twist and twist to get it there and now my string and cables are really twisted up tight. I would think a new set of strings would be a lot closer but I talked to Brad and he said he built them to the specs from Elite's blueprints. I'm currently gathering parts to make a stretcher to check the lengths so I'll post up the numbers when I get it built.

Has anyone else had to twist things up this much?

I would like to see what you get when you blue print them. Then we can rule out possible causes like they were either built too long or Elites string specs are wrong (like they are in the owners manual on the 2009 Z28.)

I am no expert here but mine was acting the same as yours and I think it could be that the strings and cables were made a tad short so the whole harness has to get twisted all to heck. My shop ordered new strings for it.

I have my bow shooting pretty good too but its still not quite right.

I had to twist forever Paul with the stock strings. Ben's set were spot on for draw weight. Glad you got your limbs.

Thanks, Jeff. Hope your bow come back soon too but more importantly, your wife gets better even quicker.

I asked Brad (60X) if he'd had any other complaints and he said he had not. Bow was peaking late with your 70# limbs on it but I didn't mess with it cause I knew it was going to be torn down. That was my main issue and once I got draw length correct, the peak came down to almost 6.5". I'd like to add just a couple more twists but things are getting close to knotting up. I'll be curious to see what the lengths are when I get my jig rigged up.

I have a set of 60X strings on my Answer and they spec'd out great.

Are you trying for a 65# bow? I only ask because 123 limbs fall between 60 and 70# on the Answer. I ordered my bow in 60# and the limbs also had lines on it. When I pulled them off to send in I saw they were 123 when they should have been 135's. Someone here said some of the earlier 60# Answers shipped with 123 limbs for 60#ers then Elite changed the limbs to 135's to hit 60#'s

Yes, I was going for a 65 pounder. 114's are 70# and 135's are 60# so 123's should be 65#. The earlier Answers were maxing out right around 65-66 pounds if I remember right. I had 70# (114) limbs on the bow and the new strings were at the same starting specs. AtA and brace were good but DL, max# and peak were off. Same deal when I put the 123's on so I'm pretty sure the threads are the problem.

Sorry, I misread your post! I thought you were still talking about the stock ones!

Yea, I had to twist the stock strings up quite a bit to bring mine into spec.

Specs are a STARTING POINT and not SET IN STONE. Get them close and set the bow up to fit you and shoot like you are doing and I promise you that you will be MUCH happier with your bows and shoot them better.

I have set up god knows how many bows with strings I have made myself and strings from countless good string makers. Everyone of them your going to have to put some time in to set them up...if you really want to have a bow fit and shoot it's best.

Don't worry about a bow not being dead on in spec....now I am not saying set it way off with correct rigging. Your setup is so close to dead on "factory spec" that I wouldn't even think about asking if it was ok.
