Default Bow presses for Elite bows

Hey everyone, i am awaiting my new bow, well, it's a 2010 GT500, but still new. First new bow i have had in 7 years. I have always had a local pro shop set up anything that needed the bow pressed, but have decided i would rather start doing some of this stuff myself.

Only thing is i don't want to spend alot on a press as i might not use it alot. I have even thought about building my own press too.

A friend of mine has an older Apple bow press that he bought about 12 years ago. Don't know which model it could be. He said i am more than welcome to use it if it would work.

Would the GT500 work in an older press like that, or is it considered more of a parallel limb bow?

Do not put your Elite bow in that old Apple press. You could crack your limbs and void the warranty. You need something like an X-Press or EZ type press to use on these bows.

they make paralel limb adapters for some of the older apple presses, but by the time you buy them you might as well buy a new press. I have an X-press, but cheap its not. Check out the ez-press green model, little easier on the wallet. My advice is buy it once, buy it right. learned that the hard way with a cheap press several years back only to bite the bullet on the sure loc and get not so much for the other press...

I built a press that is kind of like an x-press for under 100 bucks, and works great on the Elites. I havent built fingers to use on bows like PSE, and monstars though.

Google "Cougar Jim X Press". You can buy the plans for like $5-$10 and can be built for under $100. It is basically a Sure-Loc X press and works awesome. If you don't know how to weld I have heard of a few people that have built it using JB Weld metal epoxy and they worked out fine.

You can use the Bowmaster Press, but it is much better if you use the adapter arms.
I bought some from Eagle Archery for $20.00USD or so.
