    Default 5 spot rules

The Arkansas state tourney is going on and I was pondering a scenario. If a vane comes off of an arrow are you allowed to shoot a different one in its place or are you allowed only the original 5 arrows you start with?

As long as it is the same as the other arrows and is set up the same ( the same make shaft with the same fletching and nock color ) you can use a different arrow. This is the exact reason many of us carry at least six arrows in our quiver, it also comes in handy if you drop an arrow that is with in reach you can shoot the extra one in your quiver and pick up the dropped arrow once you are done shooting that round.

Thanks old man! I'm new to spots and with some of the other rules I've ran into I just wanted to check. I bombed the tourney bigger than ****...I'm surprised they let me back in the building today.

I'm sure you didn't do too bad. Until you have shot the lights out, you haven't shot bad!

Does shooting the door count It was my first tourney and I didn't fully understand what target panic is. I also made a rookie mistake and adjusted my trigger the day before to be as stiff as it could get and it caused exactly what I wanted to prevent. I only dropped one but I flung 2 completely. Then I was jabbering with some guys and forgot to shoot a round...final tally..264

Went to league last night and shot a 300 48x...so it goes

That's what I said!! Its my personal best x count since I started shooting spots but I had never shot out of the 290's until the the tourney.

And Randy, I do believe I was a little scared ...or nervous may be a better term. I don't completely understand it cause I've never had the slightest bit of jitters, but before I even toed the line I started thinking everyone was staring at me...weird. Has anyone else felt that way and what do you do mentally to try and stop it?

It takes time and for some people it takes a little longer. Just don't give up, it will pass and you will get more comfortable. Confidence is the key, not ego, but just confidence. Believe you can and you will. Shoot as many tournaments as you reasonably can and practice as much as you reasonably can. You CAN and WILL do it!

Luckydux, we've all had our ''Oh God'' moments in a tournament but what can get you through it is having a shot routine that you perform each and every shot if you don't have one you should develop one, it can save a shoot from being a bad weekend into just a bad end!!
