    Default Arrow Selection Help...

Ok, my season is over due to me filling the first part of my tag (not being able to shoot another deer until after Mo rifle season) and due to unforseen circumstances, we lost our lease to hunt on so its back to public land hunting for me for now.

Anyway, this past weekend, the wife and little one were away so the cat got to play, and I decided to test a few different arrows that I had my eyes on or currently shot. I tested 4 different arrows to see how they shot out of the bow and I liked them all for different reasons and they all shot beautifully. So heres the dilema... I can't decide as to which one I really wanna narrow it down to for my "go to" arrow that will be the one I set everything up for and my bread and butter so to speak, so I am gonna ask for some opinions from my Elite buddies

So which arrow would you pick:

All arrows are 28" on the string to end of shaft and will be shot at 60.8lbs out of a 2009 Z28 w/ Rev Cams. The numbers were put through a speed/ke calculator to give me a close estimate as my guy with the chrono was hunting all weekend, so couldn't get accurate numbers.

    Arrow A - Easton A/C/C's
3-49 spine = 374.4gr (average finished arrow weight w/100gr tip)
    = 281.8 fps
    = 66.6# ke

    Arrow B - Carbon Express Maxima's
250 spine = 346.1gr (average finished arrow weight w/100gr tip)
    = 292.3 fps
    = 65.7# ke

    Arrow C - Carbon Express Mayhem's
250 spine = 387.9gr (average finished arrow weight w/100gr tip)
    = 278.3 fps
    = 66.8# ke

    Arrow D - Gold Tip Velocity Pro's
400 spine = 328.1gr (average finished arrow weight w/100gr tip)
    = 298.3 fps
    = 64.9# ke

Again only looking at these 4 arrows, do not want recommendations for other arrows or that your mom's sisters' brother's neighbor's wife's best girlfriend's cat shoots X brand arrows and has better luck with them...

I see in your signature that you say your already shooting GoldTip velocity pro's. What is the reason you are wanting to switch?

If using them for hunting, I would think that A/C/C's would be kinda pricey, but that's what I used to use for hunting before I went over to GoldTip 7595 Pro Hunters. I have yet to have a problem with any of my arrows from GoldTip that our family uses, I use them for everything from indoor to big game.

I have never tried the Carbon Express so I can't say either way on they're products.

I shoot pretty close to arrow B now and have for a few years now. Mine are a little shorter and weigh slightly less, but work well. I tried arrow A last year, but just was not as impressed with them as I hoped. I had shot ACC's in the past and they are good arrows, just really like my Maximas.

I'm a gold tip fan and love the Pro's (Pro Hunters and Velocity Pros).

I say stick with the to extremes. Fast and flat, or the heavy punch of the ACC.

I'm going to shoot the ACC Pro hunters and Velocity Pros in my testing next year.

I have a dozen maximas that I have had for 2 years that I love. They shoot fantastic. But i have heard amazing things about the other arrows so I bought a half dozen of each of them to try and like them all in their own way. the gold tips shoot very well and a little faster than the maximas I have. The mayhems and the acc's were both heavier and shot a little quieter which I liked, but were slower. I am currently shooting the gold tips, but still indescisive as I like them all and trying to narrow it down to just one, but was having trouble picking a fav, hence why I asked to see which arrow everyone else would choose out of those.

If you decide against the maximas and want to part with them, hit me up. Mine are getting a lot of shots on them and could use replacing.

Well you didn't list cost and durability or purpose for the arrows. I assume it is only hunting so cost and durability are less important due to the only one shot and it is a small part of the costs of hunting. That said the ACC's are a nice arrow. I used to shoot them for everything some 20 years ago and they were very true but they could get bent near the tip quite easily at a 3D shoot so you had to check for this quite often. They were about the lightest straightest arrow available at one time.
I applaud you for spending the cash and looking into other arrows. I would bet not many folks experiment like this. As you end up with a bunch of mismatched arrows that you don't have any use for. One thing We all can see is that your KE stays the same for all the arrows as this is a bow specific thing. The speed matters more if you compete or hunt at longer and unknown yardages. Depending on if you have a range finder, hunt in heavy cover with small windows to shoot through and what sight you use that velocity is more or less important. If you are mainly a hunter did you shoot these arrows with test BH's?

Correct. The bow is broadhead tuned, and all 4 arrows shot the same with my 100gr Slick Trick Mags as they did with my field tips. I shot all arrows at 25 yards and all hit within a 2" orange circle consistantly with either head.

I mainly hunt and backyard shoot with friends and family, with the occasional 1-2 3d shoots a year just for fun. Price isn't a concern to me as when it comes to hunting and fishing stuff, anything for my son, or anything that has to do with my health or my wife's health, I have the old saying that you get what you pay for, so why not just take the extra time and money to make sure you get something quality.
