    Default Arrow insert removal question

So I screwed up tonight. Went to Dicks Sporting Goods and bought a half dozen Easton arrows. I have an arrow saw and figured I'd cut them and glue the inserts in myself. Wife said "why not have them do it?" So I did.

WELL, guy takes 20 minutes to cut six arrows and glue in the inserts. Comes out, walks past me, shakes his head coming back and says we have a problem. I think great! He glues one insert and doesn't push it in quick enough. The insert is sticking out 1/4". Of course it was the last 1/2 dozen of the ones I wanted.

Can I heat up the insert enough to melt the glue and pull it out? I don't think putting heat directly on the carbon is a good idea. Even if it damages the end a hair, I'd still be ok. I can cut off another 1/2" or so and still be ok. I did get $10 taken off the price and got to keep the arrow, so I'm not out any money.

    Thanks for the help.

Its according to the glue he used. If he used the melt type glue stick it will heat up easily and come right out. Now, if he used Super Glue of some kind, you can just about forget it. You can cut them off a smidge and go with a slightly shorter arrow. Do heat the insert, not much of the shaft.

Problem is the insert is pretty long on the Eastons. I don't have enough room to cut off much more than 1/2" on the arrow. May just have to shoot it as is. And it's a goat tuff or similar glue.

What kind of Eastons??? Whenever you try to take an insert out, always screw in a field tip and heat that up. The heat will travel to the insert protecting the arrow. If its Goat Tuff you may get it out but probably not but you can try.

I use low temp hot melt in a lot of arrows, and if you knw for sure that is what was used, I will heat up my insert tool while keeping pulling pressure on it. As soon as the glue warms they will pop out without overly heating the arrow. If there is any question as to the glue used though, I would do as Rick suggests and not use heat.

    Just my opinion...

Just be careful with the drill bit/rod trick. It does work quiet well but if the arrow is whipped to hard you can mushroom the back of the insert and crack the end of the shaft. Been there - done that!

Take the nock out of the end and get a rod longer then, and fits in the arrow. slam it on the floor and watch out for the insert flying out like a bullet. I dont know if it works but seen a post on AT about it working really slick. I think they put a cloth over the end though to keep the insert under control. dont remember what kinda rod they used.

    I wouldnt heat it though.
No ifs and or buts Just maybee.

I'm with Rick, that or the ole drill bit trick...

.......If all else fails, pop the nock and drop a small fire-cracker in there.

(just so there is no confusion if anyone wouldn't know better, that was a joke about the fire cracker)...a small bottle rocket would be much more effective, LMAO.

OK. Thanks Rick. I was afraid of heating the carbon. Something told me that was a no-no.

I'll try it in the am and see how it works. If I post a picture of me with an eye patch on, you'll know it worked!
