    Default The Boys are Back!!!!!

I have to say that the last week was one of the most exciting hunting trips I've been on. Drove up to Train's place last Tuesday and Wednesday. Got there about 1130am Wednesday and got things ready to pull out that evening. We contemplated taking naps but considering the adrenaline rush we were having figured we wouldn't sleep much. Left Denver about 1030pm for Wyoming and arrived at our hunting location about 330am. Tried to get a little sleep before sunrise (I got maybe half an hour) and headed out about 530am which was really too late as the Pronghorn that were in the field were blowing at us as we skylined walking in. What an awesome learning experience nevertheless. This place didn't turn out to be the slam dunk we imagined it would be due to a few circumstances. There was nearly a full moon. We made some mistakes with blind locations and pressured what animals were around the area as its a small parcel and wide open. I was fortunate enough to take a doe on Friday afternoon hunting over a water tank. I made a 30 yard shot through the heart and was estactic. Funny thing with these animals is when they are shot, they just run off and then stand still and fall over. No crashing like a whitetail. Friday evening we made the decision to move on and headed East. The area had been pre-scouted a little by Train so we set up a ground blind. It also became apparent the hunting would be a little tough here too. Sunday evening I was sitting over a water hole and here he came. It has been years since I have felt it but I had a case of "buck fever" that I can't recall ever being this strong. He came within about 20 yards and was staring right at the blind. I was afraid to move for fear of making him bolt so I didn't draw my bow. He started to leave after drinking and I thought "I HAVE BLOWN IT". I guessed the yardage to be 35 yards, set my pin, drew, took aim and shot at him quartering away. To my pleasure I saw my arrow sticking out of his side as he ran off. I saw him go 80-90 yards away, stand still and fall over. I was hootin and hollering so loud I'm surprised my Texas brothers couldn't hear me. Finally a western hunt that was sucessful and I couldn't have been more elated. I decided to sleep in Monday morning and Lonnie went out to spot and stalk which he is very good at. He was able to connect on a small buck and our hunting trip was complete. What a rush to be hunting these animals and hanging with a great friend. Oh and for those that don't know, Pronghorn meat is to die for.....its that good. I am very grateful to have taken my first antelope using an Elite bow. It just doesn't get any better than that.

Congrats to both of you on a fun hunt. Glad you had fun and whacked some goats.

That Predator Brown kinda blends in with that Pronghorn.

I envy you guys. Pronghorns are at the top of my hit list "someday".

Congrats to you both! Sounds like a good time, and a successful hunt, doesn't get any better than that.
