    Default Chocolate release mishap

Well I was shooting with my new chocolate lite release, and was trying to adjust the tension before the release will go off. Apparently you can make it require too little of thumb tension before it goes off and I noticed the hook would not lock, so I adjusted it so that the hook would lock. Ok so I hook it on my mint E-500 and fire the first **** right in the ring. Hook it and lock it on the string for the second shot, get to about half draw and BAM the **** piece of **** release just opens up and goes off on its own, my arrow is lost and my bow went smashing straight into the ground. I did not know you could have it set too light when the actual locking hook did lock. Talk about being pissed off...... The release hit me directly in the face between my teeth and nose, feels great... I have turned the screw out so that the trigger now takes more movement, but I am now gun shy to shoot the dang thing.

I have done the same thing with other releases, try it again drawing straight back in front of your target at close range. Your confidence will return. When I first read your post I had to laugh, good to know I'm not the only one that does stuff like this.

I have to ask Evan....the release comes with three sets of springs. Did you install any of them???? If you didn't (just asking) the release WILL fire on its own before you get to full draw. This happened to me a couple of times with my Judge. Didn't hit myself in da face but did have quite a big egg swell up on my left forearm from string slap.

I believe it does have a spring in it Jeff as it is fairly heavy, but the guy I bought it from said he shot it without the spring in it because he thought that it felt heavy even without a spring. Not too sure whats in it. Im just hoping I have the screw turned out enough that it doesnt go off like that again, but I like having the shorter amount of travel distance for it to go off so playing with it is going to be iffy. I might just have to get used to the longer trigger travel. I would like to see how yours is setup, trigger barrel and all.

So I'm guessing you bought it used? Funny thing I shot mine for about 4 years without any springs installed. I had the springs that came with it but didn't know none were installed (instructions with releases, sights, rest aren't very good to say the least). It worked like a charm on all my bows until I got the Judge. I guess the extra power stroke on the Judge was too much for my Chocolate and boom popped my arm something fierce a few times. I installed the light springs and bingo problem solved. You shouldn't have alot of travel in the trigger (at least I don't like alot) and I have the barrel located back and up so its fits in the back of my thumb so I can squeeze off the shot. If you have it forward you can punch it like an index trigger release. BTW I tried the heavy and heavier springs and couldn't shoot with it worth a darn. The light set of springs works well for me.

Thanks for the info Jeff, I will take out the little spring compartment and see if it even has a spring in it. It does have the black thing in the compartment. I currently have the original barrel installed in the hole closest to the release and all the way as far as it will go to the locking mechanism, so it feels like it is in the back of my thumb or atleast in the largest deep part of the thumb, like a little pocket. I will just have to keep playing with it and hope it doesnt go off on me. I think I have it set fairly good now, I just wish I could make it a little shorter without going off, Im sure I might be able to turn it a tad bit but im scared.

If you have the springs in the release and have the tension adjusted properly it won't go off on its own. Trust me on this one....I have experience LOLOLOLOL
