    Default Chronographs?

Good morning to all you who are more experianced at this than I.

I have just purchased a Judge and have an issue trying to figure out the speed of it.

At the indoor range they have a handheld chrograph that reads by bow being much much faster than the F1 chronograph that I have for reloading.

So my question is, how accurate are the hand held chronographs? (The one they use is about the size of a stopwatch and has a six-ish inch rod attached to it. Sorry, I don't know the brandname or modle).

My F1 reads my 352.3 grain arrows coming off my 71.9# Judge at 29" at 274.5fps.
The range chronograph reads the same arrows at 319fps.

Odds are I have to get my F1 recalibrated, but both speeds seem way too slow for my bow.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard bad reviews on the small hand helds and stabilizer mount models. If you want to check your F1 I would suggest measuring the distance between your front and back sensors. It is suppose to be exactly 12" center to center. But in order for your speed to be off that much you would have to be off by almost 2" by my calculations, and I doubt there is any way that your sensors are only 10" apart!

If you do not have a lighting system on your F1 this usually helps, I know if made a huge difference on mine. Sometimes when the battery is low I will get odd readings too.

    Something seems really flawed there.

I can verify that the stabilizer-mount screw type chronographs are not at all accurate.

I put my Infinity through one of those chronographs and it read 271fps, took it to another archery shop and it was 289fps. I verified that the archery shop was on by putting some arrows through my Z. I think the 289fps was within 1-2fps, with respect to where my Z chronographed at.

On the low end you should be shooting that arrow between 328-330fps. I'd say both chrono's are off but the hand held is alot closer to actual speed.

    Default Thank you all.

Thank you all who have helped me out on this.

I tested my bow again last night, in better lighting conditions, and my chronograph worked much better.

My weight was dropped to 66.7 pounds (stupid shoulder anyhow), but my speed increased to 322.7fps.
I can't wait to see what this Judge will do at my max of 71.96 pounds!!!!!

But, but, but... I don't wanna.

My Judge's birth certificate reads 343, and I WANT IT!!!

After all, it's sooo cool at the indoor range when you let loose and everybody snaps their head around to see who made that solid thump downrange. It's .

It's also wonderful to watch those target butts swing when you hit them at 50 yards.
