Well, I had a great time, perfect weather, but no money and nothing to brag about this week. I actually shot terrible yesterday, but I shook most of them in the 10 ring except for a 46 yard deer I shot for 43 and dropped just underneath the 8 line for a nickel. Otherwise, 3 8's and 3 12's.
Then, today, I shot much better, but my score was worse. I was holding so well I shot at all 20 12 rings. I missed 7 of them a half inch or less under, which means 7 8's. All the rest were 10's. I just couldn't buy a 12. In 20 shots, I never missed the 12 more than 2 inches, but nothing to show for it. But that's the way it goes sometimes.
Ranges were half over 40 and half under 40. Good mix.
I do want to say congrats to Mark Trombley, a friend of mine here at home, who won Senior Open by a mile. He was incredible. Won by 21 points. All of us were shaking our heads. Had 16 12's and 3 8's. Mark has been shooting a new Hoyt Vantage Elite for about 6 weeks and his scores have gone straight up here at home and at ASA. I'm sure he's leading the SOY standings in Senior Open. Shooting Victory X-Ringer HVs as was I.
Kind of a funny story. I saw him on Friday, and he asked if I was ready to shoot 10 up Saturday. I told him I wouldn't need 10 up to win, and he said yes I would, because he was going to shoot 10 up. That's exactly what he shot Saturday, then 16 up today. Incredible. Only 2 or 3 guys were up.
I never saw 1 Elite down there. But I'm sure they were there. I just never saw one. I REALLY wish Elite would increase their staff size so we can build a presence at these ASA shoots and others. Nothing does more for a manufacturer and their reputation. One of NC's best shooters applied for their staff and was denied. He's shooting Pro. Guess what message everyone gets from him now.
