    Default I Was told?

a long time ago I was told that cat whiskers string leaches don't lower decibels they change frequency! sounds quieter to us but not necessarily
quieter to a deer or animals with better hearing than us! your thoughts?

Since the advent of the STS I don't use any silencers on my string, but I would like to know the answer to this as well.

I know if a bow sounds quieter to me, I am more confident with that bow. Things go "thump" in the woods, they don't go "bang!". Anyway, I am not a deer hearing expert, but little or no noise in every piece of equipment I use, makes me happy and more confident, especially on still cold evening....
I like talking about hunting, can we do that more often?

Very true Pete!! I've watched deer not even flinch when a dead limb falls from a tree but make the slightest "tink" on that metal tree stand and watch what happens!

We are really talking about a pretty insignificant amount of noise or speed loss if you use them. I haven't used them since the sts came out and still shoot unalarmed deer when I shoot. If you think of how much quieter the modern bows are compared to the 90's bows we should be just fine, killed quite a few deer with much noisier bows.

I agree with what was said-confidence in your setup keeps you focused on the hunt and not your equipment!for sure the sts has changed the sound of the bows noise for the better I believe! as I get older my hearing isn't as good as it once was, just wondering if I was missing something not using whiskers or leaches! still harvesting deer every year with my bow got # 21and22 last year. always looking for ways to improve my equipment and my hunting skills! thanks for the in put!!

I don't really know how much quieter these bows can get!! Or if anything more on the string can help.
I shot a doe last year w/ my GT500 at 14 yards. She was with 4 other does , all at between 12- 20 yards.
The arrow went thump in the doe , the bow went thump, and NONE of the does left the area within 20 yards. They did react, but only by picking up their heads as they fed. Even the doe I shot walked off and laid down.
I don't have anything on my string.
