    Default 80# Gt500

Just ordered a set of 80# limbs for my GT500 for a water buffalo hunt I have coming up and I would like some input on what shafts you would recommend.
29" draw and I will be using 180 gr Silverflame broadheads.
    I want a minimum weight of 750gr.

    Thanks

On my buff hunt, I would use the FMJ Dangerous games 300 spine(for the 80#gt) These are 15.5gr/in. I would put the 100gr brass inserts from Three Rivers Archery or Lancaster that are made for the HIT system and then a 3gr or 5gr wt tube made for the HIT shafts you can get them at Three Rivers. I used these shafts on my elephant (250 spine 90# GT)and am setting these up for my Cape hunt this Sept. I harvested water buff in Argentina and Australia last year and they are extremely tough. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Hey Chris, what length shaft were you using?
I just finished an 85 pound XXL and plan on using FMJ 300's

At my draw length (30") they are dangerously close to being underspined. And that's with a 100 grain boadhead.

I think if you used weight in the nock end as well you could safely stiffen it up. Really depends on the length of the arrow.

How much penetration dod you get with your set up? What was your final arrow weight and speed?
Simple should not be confused with Easy

the arrows I built weigh in at 850gr. I think they were in the 240fps. I forgot right now but it was about 94ft/lbs. I got to the nock penitration. My arrows were slightly different than the ones I recomended for him building. I was taking in to consideration the 180gr silver flames. I had 2 of the 100gr brass inserts in the front end with 100gr TightPoint. giving me 300gr on the nose and then I had a firenock on. my arrows were 28". You might want to try the 250 spine if your arrows are much longer and 85lbs. Those are 17.2 gr/in. I would only use a 3gr/in wt tube with them. What are you planing to hunt with the arrows Stevejo??
