My brother-inlaw to be and I were screwing around trying to shoot a grass carp out of the neighbors pond with bowfishing equipment.
He had lost the piece of all-thread that he uses to attach the real to an old bow of his. So he tells me to put my release on and I can shoot and he'll hold the 18" piece of rod with the real and stand beside me (like how this hillbilly tale is shaping up? lol).
So we wade out in to some cattails where we can get close enough to where a couple are workin around. Pretty soon one comes slowly swimming up and I draw as slowly as I can (they are very skittish!) and wait for a good shot where I can clearly see him . . . . . . . . WACK! I got him! Then the excite ment really began! I quickly ran the bow to shore and then went back out to save my friend from the fight he may have lost. I waded out and started kinda tryin to push the giant fish towards shore.
All in all it was one of the most exciting things I have done in a year or so and will be trying to do it again soon. The brute measured 41" from mouth to tail and tipped the scales at a whopping 44.8#! Here are some pics.
