    Default I need release help!

Although I've shot and coached for many years I can't seem to cure a recurring problem that I myself am having. I get to tentative with my release and hold to long but instead of letting down I then try to force the release which results in a high right shot. Part of the problem is physical due to a partially fused right hand and wrist Because of this there is no side movement in the wrist which hinders shooting back tension. I need any help that all of the experienced shooters on here can give. If any of you know of a hand held release that the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th finger is set farther forward than the index finger that also could be of great help which would be more comfortable for my cripped up hand. Greatly appreciate any help or info I can get thanks, your friend in archery,Old Man Archer

Which releases have you tried so far?
My suggestion is to make sure you have the release set fairly Heavy. I know it sounds backwards but it makes you become more aggressive and more conssistent on how you fire the release. When shooting a thumb style handheld you can wrap your thumb around the barrel even put the barrel into the webbing of the bottom of your thumb. You can load up pressure onto the barrel w/ out firing it and get a positive feel then relax your index finger which transfer the pressure to the outside fingers, then pull w/ the back and boom it will go everytime consistently. Works for me and I learned that technique from one of the best Nathan Brooks. When you set up the release light then you tend to be too tentative not wanting to fire prematurely.

spott hogg Friday night delight and saturday night special are both very straight handles and finger placement. Most other seem to be swept back slightly more. Pure baketension options would be the carter colby and the stan mag micro.

This is pretty much what I do, I wrap my index finger around and touch my thumb. I put what I call pre-pressure between my thumb and index finger as part of my shot routine. Then the next step of my routine is to think of my middle finger feeling the pressure there instead of my thumb and and forefinger (where the trigger is). This allows me to pull back through the shot thinking that a rope is pulling my elbow back while pressing into the grip. I use a StanX Trio mainly cause the thumb barrel rotates and moves in pretty much any direction.

This release might be worth investigating, the lever fingers are totally adjustable to fit the hand, as well as the hook.

I tend to over hold when I draw with my elbow down to much. If I draw with a high elbow I can shoot a good shot.

Give the Carter Revolution a try. No movement just pull through. Works great for me.

Guy's I'm glad you are all reponding it makes me feel like I have a chance to cure this. heaterht and Shootstraight you gave me the same advice I've taught for many years but for some reason it won't seem to work with my screwed up hand. I currently am using 2 releases a Carter choclate addiction 3 finger and a 4 finger sweetspot by Tru-ball. I used to shoot the sweetspot great but now that my hand has lost virtually all side movement it seems to get harder to work consistantly, The Carter I feel is to swept back I have currently wrapped the 2nd and 3rd finger side to build it up so that when I pull with the back I can make it work but once again not consistantly. The more pressure means the more pain in this hand so going above the 60# springs is out of the question. I am very interested in the releases you have both mentioned and if you please, keep your thinking hats on.

Would a tension release work better for you than a hinge release. I use the LOESCH & it has a verly strait grip.
