Lightbulb 2009 Mathews Draw Force Curves

    Hello,
I just finished plotting these 2009 bow “Draw Force Curves” for all to evaluate.
When reading the results pay careful attention to the Draw Length (on the bottom of the graph) and observe how soon the bow is at or near maximum force, and then again when the curve starts down into the “Valley” to minimum draw force.
Also look at the advertised draw length and the MEASURED draw length. Many manufactures (not all) extend the draw length to help post higher IBO speeds. A very common practice these days. If a different bow “feels” that is draws long, it probably is.
Compare the draw force curves to each other, example, look at a Mathews Drenlin LD and a PSE X Force. You will see the curves are radically different, the Drenlin will be very easy and pleasant to draw…but a lot slower. The X Force is a lot harder to draw, but a lot faster.
Speed is not free, we provide the energy, it just depends on what qualities are more important to you.
Also a comment on what some archers perceive as a “Bump” at the end of a bows draw. I have not tested even one bow with a “bump” at the end of its draw force curve. That perception comes from a draw force curve that starts up very quickly, holds that force and then very rapidly lets off into the valley.
No “bump”, but a large and quick change in holding force. It’s not a bump just a very aggressive bow. High speed has its price and the archer pays for it while drawing the bow.
I hope to compile some 2009 nock travel results soon and will put it out for all to see.
Questions or constructive comments are welcome.
    Have fun

Hey, I have just found out about Elite bows, and am real interested. I am guessing you have a gt500, and I liked the numbers on it. Could you comment on how you like the force/draw curve on your bow, and what it is (draw weight, length, etc) and maybe on the speeds you have gotten if you have chrono'd the bow? If you wish to adjust the draw length on your gt500 do you adjust the bow (is there any adjustability) or do you have to change cams to get an inch change?

    Thanks-

    Dan

Thanks Oldbuck! I'm a little shocked at the Monster. I thought it stacked up more in the last part of the draw. The extra pound of weight in the last part doesn't look bad on paper but I sure feel it. I guess its time I admit I'm getting older and weaker.
I did think it was smooth just stout.

    My gt500 is 28 1/2" draw. 61 lbs with a 390grn arrow shoots 280fps.

Now thats fast. Rev Cam draws smooth and breaks over easy. Cams are not adjustable. Now you can tweak it a little either way but the cams are draw speciafic cams. Great bow.

    Hello Maybee
Its takes a good man to recognize his own weakness, age does have its way all on all of us. Just passed my 68th year gone by. Definitly weaker, when I was early forties I could still do 100 push ups, now 30 is real tough...oh well...

I wonder if the 30 inch DL. is the same Draw force as a 28. I remember the GTO I had was stout but not bad at 30. I put on some 29.5 mods for my son and it was like a different bow as far as the feel of drawing it back.
Can you check out a 30? Just curious is all.

Thanks Danl Boone for the reply. I live in a small town and believe it or not it looks like about 150 miles to the nearest dealer. Buddy of mine spoke favorably about the Elite, and the speeds of the gt500 looked the fastest on the website. I printed out the curves on the Mathews and Hoyt bows, as people are talking up the Reezen and the AlphaMax, but I have heard others that didn't like those two either. Next weekend I will travel over and see if I can finally pull back one of those Elites, hopefully the gt500, and just maybe take one home. Thanks

This is a thread about Mathews, are you asking about a GTO?
I don't have access to one now.
    Please explain.
