Heck in Texas we have so many deer that there is a special two week season at the end of the hunting year specifically for does and spikes. My son shot his first buck this year and it was a spike. One of the proudest moments of my life and the highlight to my season this year. If its legal and shoot one I have no problem with it.

There are many who would love to split us up into groups who will only shoot 150 class and above, only 6 point and above, 4 point etc. If they can get us fighting among ourselves, some feeling superior to others because of what they kill we'll eventually loose our cherished priviledge of hunting. I know you wish I had said right, but the fact is hunters are in the minority. Anti-hunters are an even smaller minority. So you and I hunt at the will and pleasure of the majority who aren't hunters but also aren't anti-hunter. This makes this thing we all love to do a priviledge. We need to do it responsibly and refrain from fighting among ourselves. I know you said you aren't judging but you have expressed enough of your rationale to make it clear you are. Please don't.

With my limited hunting time, I would take a spike to fill the freezer......

dave, I am by no means judging this guy, everyone has their right to shoot whatever they wish. EVERYONE is free to choose. I would not shoot a spike buck, but that is just me. I am by no means attempting to cause a rift or break here. I just simply wanted to see what the majority of folks here would do. this gentlemen is no less a hunter then you or I every deer/animal you kill is a feat in itself by no means was this to degrade his accomplishment.

During the first part of the season I let some bucks walk. The later in the season it gets the more I want some meat in the freezer. The first two weeks of the early season it's bucks only three point or better at least on one side. The second half of the season does are legal also as well as in the late season= 3 pt. or better or antlerless. I have let legal bucks walk in the late season and shot a doe to let the bucks grow up some. We only get one tag a year, also this just applies to mule deer in the area I hunt.

Its individual choice plain and simple. I won't tell another man what he can shoot. Holding yourself to a particular standard and setting goals is perfectly fine. Just shouldn't use that lens to view your hunting brethren.
