Default Fixed Blade or Mechanicals at +300 fps?

Ok, so I was talking to few friends today and one of my friends who is EXTREMELY technical in his bowmanship went off on a big spill about how fixed blade broadheads work best at speeds 280 and under...and that mechanicals work pretty for speeds around 300...is any of this true or is it all crap??? im nowhere close to an expert on things like this, since ive only been in the bow realm for a little while(i was raised by members of the orange army) the reason being is that im finally getting my e-500 rigged out the way i want and it is smoking fast, well over 300fps...

    any thoughts? thanks!

    Will,

I shot fixed blades for years at 370-400 fps, bow must be tuned perfect, arrows and broadheadsmechanicals about must be spin tested and you have to shoot a very heavy helical. If I made a bad shot it showed.

Then I found mechanicalsabout 14 years ago and have shot them up to 430 fps with two inch Blazers, great arrow flight. Bottom line mechanicals shoot so much better than fixed blades.

Todays fixed blade broadheads will fly. Montecs, Steelforce ect.. are all great heads and will perform for you

My hunting set up this year was an Axis arrow 28 inch, 428 gr. E-500 30inch DL. 70lb. speed 310 fps.
I shot a 85gr. Wac"em they were a little more stable then Field points at longer yards. I shot some Slick tricks that a buddy has and they were every bit as accurate. another buddy shoots 306fps with montecs. Its not the broadheads its how well your tuned.
No ifs and or buts Just maybee.

It depends on the game. For most animals mechanicals will work fine. Wouldn't use them on buffalo, or hogs (Big Hogs). I like the Shuttle T and Montec heads. My 2c

I have been shooting fixed blade Slick Trick 85gr's for 4 years now with a straight fletch vane and they fly extremely well when bow is properly tuned. I will only consider a mechenical when my E-500 finds the 3" 3blade it so desperately wants to blunge into a big deer for urban hunting. Need hudge cutting diameter to stop em fast.

I shoot both Slick Trick 85gr. and Rocket 3P Wolverines 75gr. Mechanicals and they both fly great. I've been shooting Slick Tricks for about fours and they are usually the first up at bat and they have never let me down. I don't usually shoot over 300fps with my hunting setup but I have tested both broadheads over 300fps and they both fly equally well out to 40 yards.

aaahhhhh im getting the vibe that it is more of a tuning issue than really speed, which makes sense. i think i might try both to see which performs better with my setup.

Thanks for all the info Kevin and others!
