Viper SS and it scares me to death every time.
I'm not afraid of heights... but I AM afraid of tree stands.
you know when you're pulling yourself up and it top part gives just a little. Maybe because of the bark or an irregularity in the trunk? yah....it stops my heart every time. by the time I'm up there my heart is exhausted.

    Default which one...

I have had a summit viper ss:

    Pros:
    Comfort
    Easy to climb with

    Cons:
    Size
    "tings" compared to LW
adjusting the "belt" around the tree can be annoying with the way it was designed... but great for safety.

I now have a Lone Wolf Hand Climber:

    Pros:
    Packs flat
    Light
    No Ting
    Easy adjustment
    Super Quiet

    Cons:
    Size of seat
Not as comfortable as the Summit

If I could, I would try the Summit Broadhead Backpacker SS

It folds flat and has the comfortable seat. As far as the "ting" I would just use the expandable foam and fill the tubing to deaden the sound...

That's where I am at... I wouldn't go back to the Viper (TOO BIG).

    Good Luck

I have the older Viper, very comfortable and very heavy. I imagine I'm pushing 27 - 28 pounds with my pack strapped to the climber. It makes the downhill way more enjoyable than the uphill.

Summit has switched to aluminum and I may purchase a new base to drop some weight, but they have the best seat. Lone Wolf has one of the lightest
along with Ol Man and maybe Timbertall. The ability to adjust the stand and achieve level while up the tree is a serious advantage that very few have. Timbertall and Equalizer do provide this feature.

If I could buy just the LW base and use my Summit seat, I'd probably have the best of both worlds for me. It is all a matter of preferance.

Check that stand out it can be used facing the tree or facing away. The facing away seat clamps down onto your bow or rifle while climbing no need for a rope to pull it up. I have been using the tomcat 2 for about 15 years, my dad bought it driving through GA off the guy when he was selling them from a road side shack it is super sturdy and very safe. A little to safe because I fall asleep in them all the time knowing I wont fall out

I've had 6 different climbers and have settled on a Summit Bushmaster. It's got an open front compared to the Viper. I don't like things in front of me. It weighs less too.
I can sit all day in it. It's very comfortable.

I got a loggy bayou now, POS with a big wide piece of spring steel for a strap, got smacked by it several times trying to wrap it around the tree! Going to have 12 treewalkers in a few weeks, so guess what i'll be using next year? Anyone need a extra stand lol!
