Hey everyone...pretty new here, but I like what I see so far...archers REALLY helping archers.
I've been interested in an XLR but have not got a chance to shoot one. I drove over an hour away to my closest shop here in MA after the owner telling me he had a 09 GT500. When I got there, it was a Z28 and it looked pretty used...marks all over it. I wasn't impressed with the shop at all.
Well...if I did make a leap of faith and buy an XLR without shooting it, I want to make sure I buy the correct mod. I am shooting a 70lb Hoyt Trykon XL @ 28.5 inches set at 67lbs.
Any help / thoughts would be appreciated. Also, what are my dealer options if I don't like this shop near me???
Thanks all and great site!

If you shoot 3d the xlr would be a great choice. It has a longer ATA. If you are mainly a hunter you probably would be better off looking at the GT500 or the Z28. Both are sweet shooters. I opted for the Z as it fits me better. I like the shorter ATA and wow what a shooter. I have "robin hooded" four arrows since the first of oct. when I purchased it. I never came close to doing that with my previous bow which was a Mathews switchback. Welcome to Elite!

I use the same bow for spots, 3d and hunting. I don't shooting indoors very seriously, but I just like shooting a lot. My best round I shot a 300 with 48x's. I mainly shoot 3d targets to practice for hunting. I always use the same exact setup for everything I shoot. I'm a pretty good shot and I shoot out to long distances often....I was wondering about the GT500 but I've never had a "speed bow" before.

I own both the GT500 and the XLR, if I had to choose one bow, I'd choose the GT500, especially with a draw of 28.5in.

why? speed and KE alone?
How are they comparable out to distances, forgiveness, etc? I've always had a slightly "longer" ATA bow.
But What about DL? Should I still be looking at a 28.5 DL? I've pulled back a couple 29" bowtechs and they didn't feel long to me.

Going off your information you have provided, I would go with the XLR. It is only an inch longer ATA than your Trykon XL will be roughly about the same speed with an additionla inch of brace height. How could you go wrong with that? I would order it as a 28.5". My trykon was a 28.5 and my GT500 is 28.5" and both fit me the same. It always better to err on the short side with draw length.
Comparison for the 3 bows mentioned.

thanks TX!
kind of what I was thinking...prob even get a few more fps out of the XLR.
I really wish I could shoot the both of them...well, if I hit the lottery they'll both be mine, right?
