Announcing the formation of the Elite Archery Summer League for 2008!
There appears to be a lot of interest in doing this, so let's give it a go!!
First, the necessary disclaimers:
* This league is NOT sponsored by Elite Archery.
* This is my first time administering a league, so be kind. I am sure to make mistakes. Just let me know when I do and I'll correct them.
* The purpose is to have fun and to get you out there shooting!
* While this is a "competition", please don't take it too far. Have fun and roll with any hiccups that come along.
If you wish to participate, please PM me (Smeagol) and state that you want to join the league. I will randomly add you to a team.
The league will start on July 14, 2008. That means that there is more than 1 week to prepare and allow people to sign-up. The week #1 scores will be due on 7/21, and so on.
Please read the attached "Rules/Guide". Let's use the coming week to clarify anything I missed or that is not clear in the rules/guide I have attached to this post.
I also am attaching a Vegas target face that you can print out and use. Of course, you are free to use more official Vegas targets, here's a link (http://www.lancasterarchery.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=53_250&products_id=1359) to some.
Let's have some fun! Attached Files http://www.elitearchery.com/forums/images/attach/pdf.gifLeague Score Card.pdf (http://www.elitearchery.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=3144&d=1215493245) (11.6 KB, 13 views)

I agree with this 100%. Heck, I could take a target and stab it with my arrows and say, "I shot a 300, look here's my photo to prove it!". But, what' the point in that. I still know that I stink...and now I am dishonest to boot.

there are alot of variables chip, what if 1 guy shoots a hunting set up but has a local shop to shoot indoors but another guy shoots a scope and monster stab. but has too shoot outside when the wind is blowing? who has the advantage then?
thats why in the rules it stated handicaps will be given based on scores from the prior weeks

well i thought they were scored opposite of a 3d shoot meaning if your touching the line you go out the the next lower ring which would mean fat shafts would be a disadvantage

If its a team event, what happens if someone has to drop out or doesn't turn in scores ?
29@62lbs
07-04-2008, 08:43 PM
Are the teams going to compete against each other each week head to head with a schedule so each team shoots against a different team each week? Or are the scores just tallied and a winning team is determined that way. I see some concerns about "fairness" and although a schedule requires more work for someone it does kinda level the playing field. The winter league at our pro-shop has bare bow shooters competing against target set-ups but the team vs different team each weeks helps out? Good luck, think I will sit it out.

There will be a weekly league average, this will be given to "no scores reported". You are allowed 1 week of no reporting before being dropped. Dropped team spots will get the average each week.

Please read the attached "Rules/Guide". Let's use the coming week to clarify anything I missed or that is not clear in the rules/guide I have attached to this post.
I also am attaching a Vegas target face that you can print out and use. Of course, you are free to use more official Vegas targets, here's a link (http://www.lancasterarchery.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=53_250&products_id=1359) to some.

upper left corner I just write down my ends while Im shooting.
Arrow one two, three and X's
10 10 9 2x
9 10 10 2x
10 10 10 3x
and so on. its there also when you take your pic of the target. Just an Idea.

I think that is a fine idea. For me, trying to write the score each end would be hard, as I have my paper target on a hay-bale, so I wouldn't be able to write anything. I could put it on there after the fact. ??
I would say go ahead and do it that way if it works for you. I take a clip-board with me and I write my scores on a separate sheet of paper after each end.
Also, some who have signed-up are not going to be able to send in a photo each week due to upload limitations on images they have. So, I don't think we'll make this a hard "requirement". Go ahead and do this if it works for you, but if not, it's all good.
Anyone have a concern with this? Let me know.

I have had some folks ask about shooting order, etc. Let me try to explain how this should proceed:
Each week you will shoot 2 "rounds".
A single round is made of 5 "ends".
An end is shooting 3 arrows at a 3-spot Vegas target. This means that there are are 3 target faces in a "triangle" pattern on your back-stop. Face #1 is the lower-left, face #2 it the middle-high one, and face #3 is lower-right target. Shoot 1 arrow at each face. I don't believe the order is significant, but I usually shoot 1, 2, 3 (someone chime in if this is incorrect or if order matters). Score your 3 arrows (max. is 30 points, with 3Xs possible each end).
Complete round #1 by repeating the above pattern 4 more times for a total of 5 ends. (max. score is 150 points, and 15Xs).
Shoot round #2 as outlined above. Total your scores for round #2 and your X count for round #2.
Total your score from round #1 and #2 and your X count from both rounds.
Report Round 1 score and X count, Round 2 score and X count, and your TOTAL score and TOTAL X count.
The email to my account should have a title as follows:
your-forum-name, total-score, week #
(e.g. smeagol, 287, 1)
In the body of the email, report your round 1 & 2 scores and X counts. If possible, include a single photo of the target faces after you complete your 2 rounds.
FYI: you can shoot as many rounds as you want! You have to score 30 consecutive arrows however! So, if you shoot a 7-point arrow after 26 arrows, you can't just drop it and re-shoot. You have to either start over or report the 7. That's part of what makes this tough!
Please post-up if you have questions.

Final team roster for the 2008 EAF Summer League!!
We didn't have any new additions or drops. So, I added a 5th member to Team 1 and Team 7.
What does this mean? When I calculate team scores, I will add each teams individual scores and divide by the # of team members. That will be the score we compare across teams.
I will post the Team matches shortly. Let the "smack-talk" begin!! :slap:

OK, another change to the team rosters. It ended up we have 30 participants! That's great.
So, we can have 6 teams of 5. It makes the the weekly team scoring much simpler.
Here is the "final" team roster. I also have the 5-week team schedule in place.
This is a 6 week league, so individual scores will be collected for 6 weeks. It's just that there will be no team competitions on the 6th week.
So, get out there and start collecting your Xs!
Week #1 scores are due JULY 21 by 8:00pm. See the rules PDF for my email address!

Please take a look at the "rules" PDF in the first post of this thread. My address is in there. I don't want to post it here as it is likely a web-bot will find it and I'll get more spam.

Archers in the EAF Summer League, a few administrative items:
1. When you send me your scores, can you use the following format in the subject of the email you send me:
forum-name, score, week #
So, for example, I would send an email with a subject like:
Smeagol, 275, week 4
2. When you report the #s in the body of the email, please report each round scores. Again, I need the score from Round 1 and the score from Round 2. I use those scores to calculate the team competition scores.
I have sent emails to those from whom I need additional information.
Thanks!
Get out there and shoot!!!! Show the X some love!

Team 3!
Not smack, just fact.
I know we are supposed to send scores in to Smeagol, but I am posting it here. This is THE best I have ever shot a Vegas target (um, 1st time also) Probably average for this crowd, but it'll work for me. I gotta get a new target, the ones on the right blew through it. Backyard, a bit of wind, a Sam Adams, and we roll. Now TAT, we need some custom Avatars for TEAM 3...
TimZim.. Did I see professional Archer! We are in!
Score: GRZIP 290 week 1- 13x
Round 1: 146 5x
Round 2: 144 8x
Bow: 07 Synergy with an HHA sight, 2x lens..

LOL!! She's my wife & has only shot her pink Fire about 100 shots thus far. She is not a member of the forum. I had her do a practice round the other day & she got a whopping 197 & 0 X's. Will be be doing another round today. She is having difficulty with her form & punching the trigger. This league is just what she needed to help her to keep shooting. Remember guys this is for fun & to get us shooting better! So, Team 3 please remember that!:freak:

I got my bow in from Michael today. However, my CJ site like he thought does not have enough windage to even line up the site correctly. I shot 2 arrows and they were over a foot off to the left. My CS looks to be around 1" like many have posted. I am going to try to hit the local store to get a site hooked up, if not I will have a worse score than TATs wife as I try to compensate for that huge amount of error. :(

I know someone who got a 297 & is not happy with the score & it sure wasn't me!:toothless: It is these great shooters that makes me want to improve & so I am glad that they are shooting in the league. I turned in my score & even though it was not in the 290's I am very happy with it. I am just using a regular hunters set up, no scope, lense, or 40 ft long stab & a rookie to boot! Go out & have fun & just try to improve each week that's my goal! We will all be winners if we do!:first:

Feel free to print out the target image I posted in thread #1. You just print 3 of them each week, set them up on your back-stop in a triangle fashion and "boom", you're ready.
I usually mount mine on a big piece of card-board. I like the nice "thwack" sound it makes! :2thunbs:

For those of us printing targets from the pdf.vegas document, make sure your printer properties for size is "none". I didn't check mine for the practice targets i printed that i am going to shoot tonight and it was on "fit to page" which cuts you an 1/8th on you lines or 1/4" on diameters of the red and blue circles. the yellow 10 ring was good.

Yep!! I noticed that after a couple of rounds back when. Check your printer settings and make sure any "scaling" is disabled. The target face will fit on an 8.5x11 page, but if you scale it, it'll shrink it down a smidge. :badpc:

I have some alum logs (Super Slam Lites 2514 @ 31" with 4" feathers) and maybe if i would have used those and shot the same holes i did with the maxima 250's i would have added 6 to my X count but only 2 to my total score. might practice with them and see how much i have to adjust other than the sights down. I really would like to pull a 300 one day but 290's with a higher than 15 X count would make me feel like i could compete with some of the other guys around here. If my eyes continue to go fuzzier, i'll have to use a magnifier and clarifier. to much $$, cause then i would want a bow strickly for target so i didn't have to jack with it.

I could easily shoot over 300 with more than 30 x if I trade my biscuit for a LD, shoot fat shafts, get a scope and use a BT release, but I want to give you guys a chance:mooner:

You forgot: "...and shoot indoors...". Obviously those of us shooting outside are at a huge disadvantage!
However, one day I was being attacked by this stupid no-see-um fly at the range...dang bug flew right into my sight-eye right when I released, caused me to shoot an 8! I started flailing around with towel and whacked that stinking bug. I have it's head mounted on my wall. I felt manly after that.
But, still no 300...

Administrative Update:
Hey everyone! Week #2 results are going to be reported LATE next week. I am heading off into the Sierra Nevadas on Sunday night (i.e. no Internet access) for a few days and I won't be back until next Thursday evening. I hope to have week #2 results posted on Friday, 8/1.
But, please DO send me your scores, and I'll crunch the #s as soon as I get back. I am running an archery range for a Youth Camp for those few days, so I'll get lots of shooting in!! woot!
Reminder: when you email me your scores, format the email as follows:
Subject: forum-name, score, week # (e.g. Smeagol, 999, week 2)
Body of email: Round 1 score, Round 2 score, total score, total X count.
Picture (if possible).
I need the rounds reported separately so I can calculate the team scores.
Thanks everyone! And think X!

That's because they didn't report a score, so they got a "league average" assigned to them. 2 of them have dropped from the league, so they will get "league averages" for the remaining weeks.

The Summer league is half-way done! Time for some awards!
Given that the point of this league is to have fun and improve our shooting ability, I thought it would be cool to recognize a couple of the archers who have shown the most improvement throughout the 3 weeks. By "improvement", I simply mean the difference of week 3 from week 2 + the difference between week 2 and week 1. I excluded any archer who received a "league average" from consideration.
Without further ado, the 2 archers that have shown the "most improvement" are:
Paula [team 3] -- 33 point improvement in the past 3 weeks.
HVAC/R Hunter [team 4] -- 25 point improvement in the past 3 weeks.
They are followed closely by:
zorglub [team 1] -- 24 point improvement in the past 3 weeks.
azchili [team 6] -- 22 point improvement in the past 3 weeks.
Great shooting folks! Hope you are enjoying the chance to shoot in the league. There will **probably** be some other prizes at the end of the league, so keep on aiming for those Xs!
Paula & HVAC/R Hunter: the prize is a shooting towel (http://toughantlertees.homestead.com/Towels.html) from our very own TAT! Please PM me your address and I'll get that to TAT so he can send you your towel. Take a look at the link above and pick out your color. Let me know what you choose...and your address!

congrats to her, nothing like making improvements
Im really disappointed in myself this week, I seem to be struggling to find time to shoot, and when I do get to shoot Its late after a hard days work so Im beat LOL
Oh well this weeks score was 280 5x email sent smeagol
I hear that! I had 3 available times to shoot this past week and each time it was raining. So down to the wire today I had to shoot during lunch in the rain. I ended up shooting 2 rounds because the first was so bad. I only got 3 pts higher the second round. I dont know the last time I shot in the 250s but it is definitely a huge low for me. I think I could use some dry clothes and some warm soup. :mornincoffee:

Sure is all in good fun. I am very competative with myself and I want to at least improve from week to week. I am going to try and shoot a quick round again and resubmit if the weather breaks after work. It will have to be quick or else the wife will not be happy! I dont think it will be hard to score higher than I did but I am also not used to shooting over 100 arrows a day either...hrmm

Let's finish up strong everyone! :shooting:
Hey all. HVAC/R Hunter wants to pass his "Most Improved Thru Week 3" shooters towel onto zorglub!

Hey no problem! I don't need to be thanked. I would rather pass along the prizes to the ones who truly improved their score. My scores improved, but not because of getting better, but because I switched back to shooting my old bow, and picked up where I guess I should have been all along. (My first round with my old bow was a 290, and my best round with my GTO was a 270)
This league has done wonders though it taught me that my GTO was without a doubt NOT ready to go to the woods with me.

No loading of the arrow upside down this week. Really paid ALOT more attention to it this week. :pephula2: X count was down a little though, hehehehehe!

Sounds like our leader got another 300! Congrats!:guitar: I continue to improve. I shot a 290 & 14 X. I hope I can hold the 290 & continue to improve. I'm pretty satisfied with the way I have been shooting for a 1st year rookie!:thumb:
