There was a time when I thought shooting a Zebra would be like shooting a horse. After reading up on them and finding out they are one of the toughest animals to hunt because of how weary they are I have of course changed my mind and realize what a trophy animal they are. Especially trying to hunt them with a bow!

I think you were more correct in thinking of them like striped horses. I didnt find them to be the most challenging animal there. It does make a pretty rug for my office though.

The "pro" lenses make the camera bodies look VERY cheap. I shoot canon and a $10k body sounds expensive, until you realize the cheapest lense attached to it is worth about $15k...and the most expensive $58k.
Needless to say...I don't do wildlife photography anymore....I wanted a house instead! :)

...only thing i'd add is ... a zebra...
Something about shooting a zebra just feels too much like killing a horse. Since I won't hunt what I won't eat...and I'd have saddle flashbacks...zebra will forever be off my menu.

That's very interesting. There is certainly no argument from experience. Maybe the author of my readings was just hyping up Zebra's. Thanks for your clarification:thumb:

Everyone I know that has been there had felt the same way but all came back with a Zebra. They say you learn a lot about that stripped critter when you get there and they do eat them. I seen a clip last night of a Zebra getting attacked by a lion in a water hole. Zebra almost drowned the lion and got away.

Good Luck Mike, I can not wait till I get over there myself.
Zebra's aint no joke, they are mean and it is very common for a dominate male to kill off other Zebra's just in a show of force.
I have a few friends that got great footage and stores of just how mean they can be; biting flesh and stomping the mudd outta predators and other animals.
Looking into to going to Africa ( maybe 2010 ). What does a trip like that cost, round trip hunting Kudo, Gemsbock, Zebra, Warthog?

depends on where you go and who you hunt with.... i've always been told $10K getting your skulls and capes back included as a rough estimate. depending on how many animals you shoot.
the one i'm takin is more because of the Cape Buffalo aspect; higher day rates and large trophy fee.

man...what a way to collect a debt:thumb: sorry to hear about the Zebra. the shop owner, who i used to work for, and his dad went to Africa and both wanted Zebra and came back empty handed. They both said that was the wariest animal they hunted the whole trip. they took kudu, impala, wildebeest, warthog, blesbok, 1 gemsbok, and a giraffe :weird:. i'd have one heck of a time trying to find a place for a giraffe mount

I think alot of it has to do with where you go. South Africa has gotten to be so commercialized that most of the animals are rather "tame" compared to what we have read about. I am not bashing and I am going back next year. The company that I hunt with will put together a great deal for serious bowhunters if anyone is interested in going next year. It does make for an awesome vacation and non-hunting family members will love it also. Just bring lots of film for the camera.

All kidding aside, all you guys should take something called dent-temp on your hunting trips. If you break a tooth, or break a filling, this can patch things till you get back. Would hate to have a trip ruined because of a tooth prob, that could easily be taken care of temporarily. You can get this in the toothpaste section of your pharmacy, same stuff we use...
also if you have acrown come off in the field, you can put it back on with toothpaste, or something similar till you get back.. Don't use superglue!!!!
