Do y'all think this combo will work?

I've never hunted with a broadhead that weighed over 125gr so I'm kinda new to using anything heavier. I plan on using some new 185gr Silver Flames with a 1 7/8" cutting diameter this year for Elk and want to match it up to the right spined arrow. I'm thinking of using the new Easton camo FMJ's in 300 spine and keeping the arrow long enough so the broadhead doesn't reach the shelf at full draw. I would imagine my finished weight to exceed 500 grains and I'll be using my Envy to fling em. I think I should be in the mid 270's for speed. Will this work like I'm thinking??

I'm sure it will work but I have used 100 grain with equal sucess. You really don't need 185 gr. 125 would be plenty also.I would recommend that your broadhead is over 1 inch and not an expandable for elk. Make sure your blades are razor sharp and make clean ethical shots, MHO.Good luck.

Thanks Tim. I have never used expandables. I have always used COC for everything. I used 100 gr Silver Flames last year but liked the idea of the 1 7/8' cut but they are heavy! I'll probably get a half a dozen of these new arrows and give them a try. I always have the 100gr Flames if the others don't work out.

Im settin my 1 7/8 SFs up on some lighter shafts trying to get them close to the same weight as my 125s, I plan on using the 1 7/8s for fairly close shots and my normal ones if I gots to stretch it out.
Now if Markus makes the 1.5 cut ones Ill have to go and change more.:homer:

I'm gonna do the same thing with mine; heavy for close shots, light for further away. I have some .300 spine Victorys headed my way that should work for the 1 7/8" heads. I also hope Markus gets the 1.5" 125gr heads out this summer. I'm already saving up!

I think those arrows with that tip will weigh more than you think. I've got some FMJ 300s that are 28 1/4" long, with Blazers and a 100 grain tip, and they weigh 485 grains. So that should put yours in the 575-590 range depending on the arrow length. If you can get that heavy of an arrow to fly 270 you will be doing very good, I would think you will end up slower than that, and I'll bet those arrows will be doing a nose dive with that heavy of a tip. If it were me, I would stay between 425-475 grains, an ACC 3-71 with a 125 grain tip should get you there. Good Luck

I shot some 2219 arrows out of an old Cougar Mag with Zwickies and screw in adapters that weighed over 180 grains, 635gr total arrow weight. They flew well but had a considerable arc, even at 30 yards. I never got an elk I wanted to shoot in position to take a shot though so never saw the results. They probably were flying between 200- 220 fps and made the bow very quiet.

I think I'm gonna flip my sight, as it is bottomed out now, and try to split the difference or something. They are just as accurate as my 100gr SF's and my field tips. I can't wait to slice something open with these!

Should be an awesome combo. Hard to beat a cut on contact head, and that would be some serious kenetic energy to drive thru a big bull!!!
