Hi folks,
Just wanted to share my proud moment. The opening morning of the Va. spring gobbler season was a blast! I set up my Double Bull Matrix on a clover food plot we had seen the birds using. The deeks were, B-mobile with a real fan, a hen on the ground in front of him, both 10 yrds from the blind. Out by herself, a feeding hen, 7 yards from the blind, 15 yards from the other two.
At 7:35am several hens started coming into the clover. Three long beards followed them, strutting all the way. They were about 75 yards away and happy to stay right there. At 7:45am two more Toms come into the clover, these guys were checking out the deeks! We called to them twice, that's all the love talk they needed. I let the first bird come all the way in to the feeding hen decoy, the other was still at 50+yards. The furthest one came running in to push the other one away from the decoy. When he turned around to strut back to the decoy.....WHACK! I shot him at 7 yards with a 100 grain Spitfire! He jumped into the air, spun around in circles, then fell to the ground...Dead. As soon as the shot bird hit the ground, the other Tom strutted over to stomp him, only my friend did the stompn' with his 12ga. Benelli....BOOM!
Our first double, my first gobbler with a bow, and we got it all on video!!!
Bow kill: 20.6 lbs. ~ 1 1/4" Spurs ~ 11" Beard
Shotgun kill: 18 lbs. ~ 1 1/8" Spurs ~ 11" Beard
