Not a giant but im happy. got to my stand at 6:00 and spooked some deer walking in but had not seen anything all morn. at 9:00 i was reading a good book that my wife bought me yesterday. I looked up and this 8 point was coming thru but he picked the wrong lane and was coming by at 45 yards. i drew and went "Bahhhh" to stop him but he stopped behind a tree . which was good because it gave me a moment to relax double check my form. he took 2 steps out I settled my 40 pin a tad high and let it fly. No thump and the deer ran off. i was sure i missed. i followed him visually for 100 yard wondering how i missed what i thought was a good shot. then i thought i saw him drop, or duck under something. after 5 minutes i convinced myself i was seeing things and pulled out my binoculars and could not see him. I decided to wait it out. after an hour I saw a doe, then a small buck started to chase her. after another hour they parted ways and bedded out of range.

i finally got out of my stand. no blood. no arrow. i walked to where i thought i saw him drop and there he was. shot a little back but great quartering away angle and a powerful bow sent it deep into the boiler room.

not the monster i've been chasing, but im very happy and may even get him mounted for the cabin.

Congrats on a fine buck! I wish PA archery was still in. I saw a nice buck dogging a doe hard this afternoon. If it was, it would be pretty wild in the woods! You could shoot deer, bear, and turkey (I think) today!

That might not be the monster you were looking for, but there is nothing wrong with that harvest, :2thunbs:

For me, living in Virginia, a 120 inch deer is a monster. So I'm still very proud of this deer because it's still big for around here. We have allot of deer, but they are small. i have his shed from last year. he grew a bit, but was still an 8 point.
