OK, lets hear how you rate accuracy with a hunting set up.
I'll go first.
I have pins set from 20 to 60 yards, 20-40 yards, I expect 2-3" groups. From 40 to 60 yards, 3-4" groups will keep me from tinkering.
I also shoot a controlled punch style release, the same one I use in pop-up tournaments, it eliminates nerves effecting my "Marcus of Queensbury" fancy target release.

3 out of 5 in a paper plate at 20 yards is close enough.

As long as you start your practice 2 full days before bows eason!

Sorry, I had to do it!
I try to keep my groups to 1" or less no matter what the yardage is. With that said, it doesn't work out that way, especially with a broadhead. I think you are right on the money BAArcher. 2-3" being the goal, but 3-4" at long range being acceptable.

I cant group arrows. I'm afraid to. But I'm with you guys on accuracy. I like to hit the spots on my target every shot. I like to use a animal type target and see how many kill shots at each yardage. some of us have a indoor broad head tourney. three targets one shot each for a score. we shoot out to 40 yards.6 nights total. It really helps some of the guys out. They get to see what broad heads work and the ones that dont. we try to do this before season opens.

Cool, I really wish I had a place like that to shoot.......Here, Its just me!

The good old days of archery are gone here too. I wish we had more indoor shoots around here. I don't care much for indoor 3D, unless the yardages can be varied quite a bit. Not sure about a broad head shoot though, I think I would like it, but not sure how it would go over.

Get a couple of buddy's and set up a target then play around the world Archery style.
we play horse or pig. First guy calls the shot and next guy has to copy or gets a P and so on. its a blast.(If you win) still fun if you dont win.

We have a Southern Outdoor Magazine Big Buck Expo here every year. They have an indoor 3D pop-up shoot with a 40 +/- yard max, it pays big bucks! I paid for my Synergy last year!!

What is your best groups at say 50 yards with your Aigil?

I have a collection of damaged nocks..................Most of my shooting I do is intentionally rushed with speed loading between shots.

My thoughts are...Train like you hunt! If you can perform well under self induced pressure, aim quickly and control your shot with excelent placement...When your hunting shot presents itself, its just second nature.

So, three in groups should be easy to attain with your setup, correct?
The reason I ask these questions is that I feel too many get to a 6 in or so group and give up tuning, thinking it is "close enough". I want people to realize that micro sized groups can be achieved with a "hunting" setup. I gave up the movable scope for this coming year, because I am just as accurate with pins, but the pins will help me with the uncertain yardage that I sometimes find myself in. I am not changing classes, just equipment.

Yes, 3" for sure. When I shoot, I call my arrows...That is I know where my pin was when the shot broke. When I approach my target, I will know that I have three good shots, one at 9 O'clock and one at six O'clock. The bow is dead on, its just the idiot using it!

We can get into walk back tuning, sight leveling in every axis too!

Okay, to answer the question, I shoot a bit different when hunting than when shooting for an x. I guess it's a controlled punch, I shoot broadheads better when I pull through still moving through the target rather than settling on the spot and waiting for my typical shot routine. I feel comfortable shooting out to 50 yards my pins are set up accordingly, 25,32,40,47. I use a similar set up for target shooting. As far as how accurate, from a 2 inch diameter at 25 to 5 in at 50. If I'm spraying them I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I agree. I have 5 pins set from 20-60yds. 2-3in group from 20-40yds and I try and get a 3-4in group at 50-60yds but somtimes its a 5-6in group, just depends on the day. :D Can't wait to shoot my Synergy....:D

The real test is having the ability to shoot the "in between" yardages! Do you shlit pins or use a hot pin and hold low?

I only use one pin and on a good day shoot 3-4" groups at 40 to 50 yards and they tighten up as the yardage drops. Many, many years of shooting instinctive with recurves I believe has helped tremendously in transferring over to wheels. Judging yardage is automatic and I know how high to hold the pin. In fact, I've shot my compound instinctively without sights and could still group very well. I remember trying out bows without sights last year at shops and stacking arrows at 20 yards. The looks on the guys faces next to me were priceless.

Well I guess thats a little subjective, I shot a doe this year that required going thru the "guts" to take out the heart, but i hit right where I was aiming.;)

I know I blew a fuse, and it took a few days to get the parts to correct the situation.

I've never thought to aim between pins. I use whatever pin I believe is closest to the yardage and aim up or down accordingly. You?

I have 3 pins and they are set from 20-40. I am satisfied at 2-3 inch groups but as the distance increases, so does the size of the grouping. I plan on adding a 5 pin site so I can (maybe) attempt shots at 50 and 60 yards.

Close animals, I'll split pins. As the distance increases, I will use a hot pin low. There are many things that influence when I do either...size of target, lighting, how I feel that day? I do hunt with a range finder and when I do take a longer shot, I know the range.

I see. I will give that a try. I agree, with longer shots a range finder is a must.

I use my deer target to let me know. 50 yds and 40 yds. I feel very comfortable out to 40 yds and will shoot 50 when circumstances are right, always with a rangefinder so I know the distance. I too split pins out to 35yds. past that I will hold a little low with my 50 at 45 for example. 50 is my limit when shooting at deer. I don't think I see well enough to pick a spot beyond that distance.

I'm not satisfied until I can achieve 2 inch groups at 20 yards. I practice out to 50 but don't do as well when the yardages get long. I expect my cataracts have something to do with that. Let's face it, "you can't shoot better than you can see."

To be honest my longest archery kill is 29 yards, everything else has been under 20. It just seems that they are always close, a lot has to do where I set up. I'm usually in thicker areas where I feel the bucks will pass. I don't usually set up in areas where I will be tempted to fling an arrow unwisely.

I use a pendulum sight and hunt where 35 yards is tops. I expect all my arrows to touch when I shoot.

I practice out as far as 60 yards. I don't think I would ever take a shat at that ydg. The longest shot I have taken was 47 yards. I am very confident out to 45-50, after that I need MORE practice.
