I guess it's not a matter of "if" but more of "when" you will have a d-loop let loose and you hit yourself in the nose  I have a headach :(

Save yourself a headache and toss the D loop and get the fletchmatic rope release. Kevin uses it and turned me onto it. It took a while to get used to it but now I love it.

I agree the fletchmatic is a great release, mine is around 20 years old with no idea how many shoots and still going. I still use a loop on my hunting bow with bcy material and a fletcher flathead release without any problems.

I've had a couple break, it's hard not to flinch the next couple of weeks when you draw your bow after one of those. Also had a release head come completely off and smacked myself in the face with the other half of the release. :(

Had a knot the size of a golf ball for two days. right under my chin.

I've had one let go a couple of times.
Last summer I had it break during my summer league. I ended up punching myself in the jaw hard enough to chip a tooth. Not fun. Sure made my buddy laugh....a lot....

Have any of you ever tried an "Improved Catfish Loop"? No this isn't a joke. I tie them on all my bows. It is built from serving material and will outlast the string you build it on. If you build it the way I do it is as strong as the string.

I knew someone would ask. Well here goes. First drive 2 finishing nails 2 inches apart into the edge of your workbench. Then take some serving material such as Diamondback and wax a couple of feet of it while still attached to the spool. Next hold one end in your left hand so that it crosses your entire palm. Hold this hand next to the finishing nail on the left and with you right hand go around the nails and back to the starting point 5 times and then tie a square knot at the nail on the left. Now stretch out about 18 inches of serving material and cut it off and wax it thoroughly. Remove the serving material from the nails while maintaining it in the shape of an "O". You should have first tied string nocks above and below your nock point. You need 5 turns on the top string nock and 7 on the bottom to maintain slight downward pressure on your arrow rest. Now put the "O" under your bow string so that it bisects the circle and both string nocks are within it. Position it so that the square knot is near the string on the right side of the "O". Have the short tag end oriented so that it lays back over the "D" as you fold the two halves back over the string to form the"D". The long end now should be wrapped around the "D" once and then you begin serving the eye which is on the right side of the "D". When you serve the eye all the way around the string and come back to the "D" begin serving down the "D" until you reach the other end and serve around that eye. Then you must serve back down the "D" one more time until you reach the other eye and tie it off. Now work some more string wax into it and it will be very rigid. It will never come loose from the string. It will not seperate the serving as the 2 bearing points at the ends of the loop are at right angles to the serving on the string. This loop is not a peep alignment aid. It will rotate freely around your string. If tied correctly there will be a string nock at the bottom of the loop and one at the top. Both of these are inside the loop and should prevent nock pinch. This loop ties up very short and just allows room for you to clip on a release. It does require a stable string built from a material such as 452X. With an Elite this isn't a problem.:D
