With my new GTO arriving any day, I'm looking into also purchasing new arrows. I want to stay as light as possible to retain the speed but don't know if that's feasible. Will a light arrow work well for hunting?
How much spine do I need? I looked at Maxima Hunter 350 at 8.2 gpi????

Any suggestions?

What is your DL and weight. I use a 300 grain Carbon Express for hunting with a 60#/29" DL Envy.

The Maxima hunter is a good shaft, however I prefer a little more weight for hunting. I used to hunt with lighter shafts but seems like I get better results with a shaft that is at least 380 grains. I try to stay at 400 grains, it seems like I get better broadhead flight and penetration with that setup.

Give us your DL and poundage and we can tell you more.

#70 and 28 "draw. With the maxima hunter I can attain total arrow weight w/broadhead at about 370 grains. Is that too light? Is 350 enough spine?

I have the same poundage/draw length gto and i'll be shooting maxima 3D select 350's out of it. although i bought some aramid 350's to try for hunting this year. you shouldn't have a problem with shooting max hunters out of your bow, but the 350 max hunters are 8.9 gpi..not 8.2. the regular maximas are 8.2gpi.

That's where I like to be as well. 400 grains and above even with 60lb bows.

right around 415-400gr is where I want to be with my 60#/29" GTO when it comes in.

Hard part is trying to find arrows in a 400 spine that will get up there in weight with a 100gr tip (I don't want to repurchase all my broadheads). I know that I can get adder weights for GoldTip and I believe the Carbon Xpress arrows, but what about other companies, such as Easton/Beman?

What would you recommend, Texas 10pt?

The GT pro or XT hunters will get u there..... the 55/75's have a .400 spine @ 8.2gpi... and the 75/95's have a spine of .340 @ 8.9gpi...... I use the 75/95's in my synergy @ a 29.5"draw.... right around 410grains..... you could also get them in camo to increase the weight of the shaft....

I'm shooting Victory VF1 in 400 spine that's right at 400 grains and I'm also shooting ACC's in 340 spine that are 407 grains. Both of these arrows are shooting very accurate out of my 60lb GTO at 29" as well. The 100 gr G5 Strikers are flying well with these combos too. My Elite bows have always shot stiff arrows well. The 60lb Synergy I had and the new GTO have both liked 340 spined ACC's. You are right though that its hard to get to 400-415 gr with a 400 spine unless you are shooting something like the FMJ's.

Have you looked into the new Axis shafts at all? I believe you could find a shaft in the 400 spine with them that would get you close to your desired weight.

what is the difference between the maxima 250 and the 350 when shot out of a 29" 70# GTO?

don't think 250's (regular max's or max hunters) are intended to be shot out of a +70# bow. they might be faster than a 350 max, but i'm guessing the 250's won't shoot good because of the lighter spine. this is just a guess though, as i haven't ever shot a 250 max out of a 70# bow. someone else with more experience with carbon express arrows could probably give you better advice. a standard maxima (not hunter) with 100 gr tip, blazers is still pretty light but probably performs better out of a 70 pounder.

I use Beman Team Realtree 400's for hunting.
With 100gr tips and 27" shafts +/- you'll get 400 grains.
They have the HIT inserts and micro diameter.

Your spine will be dependent on your draw length, arrow length, point weight, and weight of fletching and nocks. Don't assume a 70# bow will need a 350 spine, it may like a .400 spine better.

Ok here is one for all, how do you think these will rate out of my bow. Spec below:

2008 GTO......:thumb:
Draw: 29"
Draw weight: 71.8 Lbs
Looking at getting some of these arrows, what do you think they will perform like? They will be for hunting only.
Victory V-Force 400's
8.1 GPI
Shaft length: 28" (using a DMI Expert drop away rest, sits back a long way)
Total shaft weight = 234.9 grains
Nock: 9 grain
Insert: 16 grain
Vanes: 2: Blazers X 3 Not sure on the weights on them, think 4 grain each

Total = 271.9 grains
Heads i am using are Rage 3 blade 102 grain Mechanicals or G5 Tekan 2, 2 blade Broadheads.
Total weight fully set up to smoke the big one = 373.9 grains
How will this set up go with the GTO specs as above? Will i be to under weight or should be pretty good. All input appreciated.

Any info on the above would be good :woohoo::weird:ran your arrow through my program and according to it your arrow should do real well. I do personally feel that the Elite bows tend to like a shaft that is a tad on the stiff side.

For a heavy arrow I like the FMJ.. I shoot a 400 FMJ at 27'' with a 4'' wrap and 2''quickspin hunters with a 100 grain head and it weighs right in a 418-420 Total Arrow weight..
I have good luck with them with my Envy but still experamenting with the other bows..

Thanks for the help gang, I went with a couple Goldtip 5575's to try out, next will probably be the FMJ's.
