I fletched up some FMJ 400 with 50gr brass inserts and 100gr heads this week. Wanted to try some extreme FOC arrows to compare to what I consider pretty light arrows I normally shoot.( CX Maxima 250s at 340gr.)
I havent weighed the FMJ shafts but I believe them to be at the 480 to 490gr mark with 4" vane tec vanes and 4" wraps.

They tuned and grouped unbelievably well! I lost a lot of speed but noise and vibration were way down and they grouped as good or better than any arrow Ive shot out of my GT500. I only got to shoot out to 40 yds though. Just thought I would share this for those who wonder about how certain set ups might work. I was unsure of heavy foc but it certainly worked quite well out of my rig.

Im shooting 63lbs, 28"DL out of a GT500.

This may be my new hunting set up. :)

Are they brass HIT inserts?

I think they'd have to be. Nothing else would fit in the FMJ's would they? Not trying to be a Smart A$$.

The brass HIT inserts come at 75 grains you can break off a part to make them 50 grains. If you are using FMJ arrows the 50 grain portion is NOT at all extreme for FOC balance on those arrows. You need to have 10-15 % FOC and 15% is better than 10. I always try to get at least to 13% or better. Everyone should check for FOC to get the best flight out of the arrow that they can. But it seems very few even know about this or how to do it.

You can also buy 100 grain HIT inserts.
I use a lighter shaft with brass inserts, I like about 450 grn total, these are 442 and 21.6%FOC:)

Dang L-t!
Ive never really given this stuff much thought. Im gonna do some more experimenting after hunting season. Cant focus on more than one thing from Halloween til the end of December.

Thanks for the input

Cool, you will need to cut the 400s shorter or go to a 340 if you start puttin more weight up front. I have one shaft cut right now for 250 grns of insert and head, about 485grn total, now thats some serious FOC.
