I am looking to change my arrow rest on my Z28. I currently have the QAD ultra rest. It's very noisy and the vanes hit the rest. I've heard that the G5 is very quiet and the expert pro has a spring that forces the rest down upon release so there is no tuching of the vanes. I also was told that the rest attches to the top string instead of the bottom which won't affect cam performance or tuning problems. Anyway, does anyone use this rest? If so can you give me some feedback?

If you do a search for rests, you will find that there is a whole pile of people using the G5 Expert Pro for thier Elite's.

They are a great rest, and you can also set them up as a limbdriver as well.

I have the expert pro II for my gt500 and you can't even hear it. It has a little rubber stopper so you don't hear any noise at all. I would buy one if i were you.:luck:

I have one on my Z28, very easy to set up. Very quiet and well built.

If you have a rubber stopper then you have the Expert ll, not the Pro. The Pro doesn't make contact with any part of the rest.

I have one on my GT500 and it's a great rest, maybe the best I've used. I had a QAD HD on my 09 Z-28 and could never get it to work like it should because of the way it made contact with the curved shelf. I sold the QAD and put on an Expert ll (before the Pro was available) and it works great on the Z. I may eventually swap the Expert ll on the Z for a Expert Pro.

I have a G5 Expert II on my 2010 Z28. I looked into putting a full containment rest on it while I was waiting for it to be delivered (lefty). It was clear to me anyway that the rest of choice for all the Elites is the G5's (Expert II/ Expert Pro) or the Limbdriver. I also have a G5 Expert Pro on my new GT500. Bottom line for me is either one is great! The only ones who don't care for the G5's IMO are the ones who either "overbow" themselves or don't have a smooth draw. If this applies to you or you want to use the bow for hunting and you often get nervously excited or twitchy when drawing back on a deer or game, then I would go with the Limbdriver. JMO

I was between the Expert lineup and a containment... ended up going with a Code Red. I don't feel that the bow is too much bow for me, but I don't want to risk jumping it off the rest in the event of a draw on a bull this season... nobody can know what nerves will do to a guy in the heat of the moment.

I must say, I absolutely love the Code Red. It does contact the shelf when it drops on the GT... I can't figure out why Elite makes the shelf as high as it is. Hopefully the 2011s solve that issue. I have a pad on the shelf that takes the hit, so it's not excessively noisy, but it's still a bit of a gripe of mine. Hopefully by the time anything hears the bow, it already has an arrow in it's side!

G5 makes great and simple rests. The Expert PRO is on my Z and I like it a lot. Easy to set up and very accurate. Try one and you will not be disappointed.

Love the rest. I have learned the value of loctite. I have had two areas back out on me from vibration of the bow.

Just a heads up... be careful when using loctite. I'm not certain what materials make up this rest, but loctite and some plastics do not mix. As long as you dont physically touch to two together, you're good to go, but you'd be surprised how fast some chemicals can change a plastic's material properties!

Alright, I'll get off of my engineering soapbox now...

I put G5 Pro's on all my shop bows, simple to put on and quick to move from bow to bow once you have the cord tied into the cable. I would also recommend tossing the arrow holders that come with it and getting a simms arrow holder, with the simms and a expert pro, i think it's the best all around setup for hunting and 3D.

I didn't know that about loctite. Thanks for the info. G 5 told me to use loctite to resolve the problem.

One other thing to keep in mind about using LocTite, there is red and there is blue.

One is perminate, one is designed to be broken when needed. (Don't ask me what one is what, I own both because I bought the wrong one the first time, years ago).

Red is stronger than blue but its not permanent and can be broken with heat. You wont need anything more than blue though.

I put the expert pro on my Z after much advise on here and after fighting a qad. This little Z will flat out shoot now and the rest is very quiet. I love it. Good luck and do take advise on loctite if you choose this rest because I had some screws come loose on mine as well.

Which screws are you guys having come loose?

jonboy

The one holding the main pivot point in, and the one that holds on the rubber arrow rest.

Yep, been there and done that one.

It really sucks when you are in the heat of competition, and start noticing that you are shooting left. And more left. And more left. And missing...

Only to find out that the screw backed out that holds the guide in place, :censored2:

I dropped four places that night, never to recover by the end of the leauge. I regained one spot, and finishing third isn't bad... but I had first by a long lead.

I don't hold it against the rest, mechanical failures happen.
I wasn't told by the guy who sold it to me that that is common on the G5. After the first few hundred shots, you have to retighten the set screw.

Had I known, I would have been checking it.

Buy one, and check the set screw every now and then. After about four or five hundred rounds, you won't have to worry about it backing out. It finds it's happy place and stays there.

Which rest do you guys prefer and why between the II and the Pro? I love my Limb Driver but I dont like it on my SS. Want a rest that makes no contact with the shelf.

From all I've heard, the Pro stands head and shoulder above the Experts I & II.

Instead of the rest coming up in the last couple inches of draw, it comes up in the first couple inches. Providing better support, and more stable too!!

The Pro can also be used as a limb driver.

I want to replace my Expert I on my Judge, and I am looking at the Pro to do it.

I have it on my Judge as well. If you put the string from the G5 pro onto the cable where G5 recommends watch out b/c it rubs on the cable. Mine rubs but I just put extra wax on it. No performance issues. No Probs. It won't touch on the z's or 500's. Hope this helps.

I spent a few weeks going back and forth. I ended up with the II. I think it is quieter(slightly) and its a more forgiving rest for me. Not on a good shot, but when I started trying to torque or move on the shot a little I found the II to be more forgiving. Bows with practically zero vertical nock travel don't benefit from arrow support like say a hoyt will.
+ I hate not being able to just lift the launcher with my thumb and check the arrow at rest. Didn't like that about the LD either but....to each there own right?

I noticed that too on my GT500, I served about 2 inches on the opposite cable where it makes contact so it doesn't wear.

I ordered a pro a couple days ago, should be here next week. After I get it I'll be shipping my SS off to Matt for new strings and a tuneup.

I have the Expert Pro on my z28 and absolutely love it. I shot with a LD for a few weeks... it was a good rest, but it's staying in my box of backup equipment now. My dad got the bone collector qad put on his new Z7 and he hates it... he was overtaken by jealousy when he saw how simple and quiet my expert pro is. :)
