Going to give them turkeys a try this year. should I use something different than my deer and elk set up? I won some expandable broad heads and kinda thinking about using them on my 3/d set up for Turkeys. some good Ideas from some of you guys that hunt turkeys with a bow would be appreciated. Thanks Rick

I like using expandables as well, something with a large cutting diameter.
Are you run-n-gunnin or blind/decoy/calling?

I think I will try spot and spook this year. I cant help but look in the next canyon, or wonder whats behind the next ridge syndrome. setting still for more than 30 min. is a down fall of mine. what do you recommend?

a double bull blind some decoys and calling, spring birds are not that hard to call in. Expandable heads are a good choice as you don't want the arrow to pass through the bird. running and flinging is tough to do on a turkey there eyesight is uncanny, One little movement and there gone.try putting the birds to bed the night before and then sneaking in early on them the next morning. good luck!! these guys are tough to hunt with a bow, let us know how you fared.

I bought one of the mouth calls. about choked to death with it. now I have a box call from primos its cool. I think when I say come here the turkeys hear run like H:censored2:. But I will give the calling some more time around the house here and see if the wife can appreciate it. Maybe she will have a tip or two for me.:)

Using a blind is the only way to go bowhunting. As far as the broadheads, there are several companies that make broadheads designed for turkeys. The point is blunt or rounded to slow the arrow down upon entry.

I would agree using a blind is the way to go in spring gobbler only season. Ive had some luck spot n Spook(lol) in fall any bird seasons but its hard, you gotta be a sneaky SOB to getrdone

Love to hunt em with a bow. Even took a FEW. I agree with the blind and the expandable broadheads, probably a smaller blind if you want to run and gun and/or hunt by yourself. I also think watching a turkey hunting video and practicing calling right along with it does wonders. Dress up in full camo and set up the blind in the living room if you want the full effect.:loco:

i shot my first one with bow this past fall while deer hunting. i used a g5 striker on the bird and made a solid hit at 34 yards. the bird ran about 10 feet and flopped over...i have no idea how mechanicals work on turkeys, but the fixed did the trick. gonna try spring turkey with bow as well. i agree that the blind is the way to go. i just bought one a few weeks ago for this purpose. now we'll see how my calling is.

...on the one I killed last year, and it about cut that bird in half. He took about nine steps, but he was weak and delusional from the first step. About the 9th step he just fell over on his face and didn't even flap again.

This is the same broadhead I use for deer. Had pretty much the same effect as on the turkey...lol

Rick...did you get the Box Cutter from Primos??? I have used that call very effectively on Rio Grandes down here in Texas. Jerry/NJ used a two blade Rage this past fall and said it was devastating on his Turkey and it only went a couple of yards. It even dressed out both breast the broadhead worked so well. LOL

I have hunted Turkeys with my Symergy for a couple of years. I use Gobbler Guilotines. I have been deadly out to 28 yds. I like the Synergy over my ryterra because I don't have the drop. I have a little but I works perfect. If the tom is 20 yards put the 20 pin on his eye and his head will come off just below the beak.

To Sight them in whithout going through a lot of Blades. I set them up ready to hunt .
For the target I put an old egg crate foam pad drape it over my bag target and draw a Turkey with his head up on the mattress. but any soft foam will work. I am going to try to goose hunt with them this fall.

There's a lot of geese and ducks around the ponds at our condo and everyday I imagine smacking one of them with a GG!!

A good turkey BH is the rocket hammerhead the 2 inch cut is wicked on turkeys. I also like the Gobbler Guilotines, get a ground blind and shoot for the head. It is awesome.
