View Full Version : Best Elite for deer hunting?

Looking for some opinions from Elite owners that have been lucky enough to shoot the GTO, Aigil, and Synergy. Im wondering about the draw cycle smoothness, speed, and accuracy.
Im leaning toward the GTO but Im worried about the draw cycle and want to avoid any erratic jerky motions getting to fulldraw. And I havent read many posts praising the GTO's accuracy yet...most posts are about speed.
I read a few posts about the Aigil and checked the specs...nice BH and sounds like it has a very smooth draw and not bad on speed either. And its a solocam!...I only know how to broadhead tune so im wondering if the Aigils cams will help keep things simple/less complicated.
Synergy I dont know much about. The specs seem very similar to the GTO with a slightly slow IBO. Im wondering if ya'll feel it draws a bit smoother.
Scenario! ...you got 5 alert does scattered around your stand and you picked the one you want to shoot. Now you want to get to full draw on it without one of the other four does busting you. You have to pull the string back slow and smooth, which one of the bows above would you pick for that situation?

have only shot the GTO, but it has a draw that is silky smooth. From the start to the finish, it is the same, no humps or hard spots. I was very impressed, especially for a speed bow.

Don't overlook the Xtreme either. It is a great bow and nearly as fast as the GTO

For hunting you want good speed and the highest brace height you can get away with plus a nice draw. The Aigil and maybe the Extreme XL offer those qualities......I love the Aigil, but I have not shot he XL yet... Mine is set up at 69#, 28.5 with a 395g arrow which is going 283 fps. This gives me 70# of KE. More than enough for whitetails. Ted nugent has been killing deer for years with a 55# bow and he blows right thru them so it depends on your broadheads too. BIgger mechanicals.....1 1/2 to 2 inches I say 65# of KE on up to ensure passthrus, Fixed heads and smaller mechanicals 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 I would say 55-65# of KE is needed. THis is my opinion of course. I used to shoot a Mathews Q2 back in 2000 when they came out and my set up was 70# 29.0 with a ACC 360 and Rocket Miniblaster 1 3/4 mech. Had no problems then blowing thru them at 270 fps. Probably had 66# of KE then. Now I got 70?? And this bow draws like its 5-7 pounds lighter than it really is! Can't beat it!! 7 1/2 inch brace height?? Sha! :muscleman:

Here is a vote for the GTO. I have shot mine quite a bit and I am having to shoot at different spots on my target to avoid tearing up vanes and nocks. I can hit vitals out to 80 yards with every shot so I am completely happy with it.

The e-500 is a great hunting bow and are hard to beat many a person has sold and then regretid it later. You can pick up a used one for a good price and I have seen a couple ushot ones for sale too.

I forgot to tell you the draw cyle on the GTO is smooth as silk. You dont have to worry about jerky movements when you draw it.

I have shot the E-500, Synergy, and GTO- all drew smoothly, but the E-500 and GTO (to me) had less of a "hump." All had an unbelievably solid back wall, and felt dead in my hand after the shot. To answer the scenario you presented- any Elite bow will offer you the smooth and solid draw you need to be fluid in your movements granted the poundage isn't too much. I have read many guys are going to 60# limbs, and still obtaining the fast and flat shooting desired.

ive not yet shot the aigil but my proshop owner shot it and like it the best out of all the new bows but he didnt get a chance to shoot the GTO but said that the Aigil would be the only new elite bow he would buy over the 07 syn but remember he had not shot the GTO and now has 1 Aigil on order along with 3 GTOs i dont think you can go wronge with any ELITE bow

The GTO is a great choice. Smooth Draw - Solid Wall - Very Little Hand Shock

I think somone nailed it when they said that you cant go wrong with any of the elite bows. I would suggest that you put on the miles and find a dealer where you can shoot the bows you are contemplating. feel for yourself and make the decision based on that.

I have a GTO on order and pretty much all I do is hunt. I'm hoping the draw and let-down will be more smoothe than the Envy I sold for hunting purposes. I would also like to shoot an Aigil. I have become accustomed to the binary draw and prefer it much more than any solo-cam I have shot so far. Wouldn't mind picking up a 8" brace height Energy for a good deal to set up for hunting either.

The Fire is One smooth dude... If your a short armed guy like me that is... 24-28" drw and smokes them arrows... Best bow I've shot in 2008 so far... I m hoping Big brother GTO will be just as smooth...

The only Elite that I haven't shot is the Aigil, but I am sure is just as good as everything else that Elite has put out.
As for the accuracy of the GTO, I would say that is great. While sighting in at 20 yds. I broke a nock and split an arrow. That happened within 10 arrows too. After that I started shooting different spots.

LOL..ya'll have definately covered the spectrum. Hasnt made my choice any easier, but seriously thanks for the replies!
Yep..sounds like I cant go wrong. I just need to get to a shop that has a few dif Elites on hand and get to shooting. ...but from the phone calls Ive made, Im living in a fantasy world...cus no shop in the continental US has more than 0 or 1 on hand to inspect.
Im leaning toward the GTO tho...the video posted by marzomi was helpful. The draw looked smooth...I still have to draw/shoot one myself, get my DL measured again, ...then im last in line on the waiting list. ...!

Having shot the GTO at two different bow shops. There is no question. The G
TO would be my choice. It is a dream to shoot. :2thunbs:
I just got all of the stuff I'll probably use to hunt with on my GTO yesterday.
Went out to the range tonight and wow! Seems like my bow is getting easier to draw every day, set at about 72 to 73 pounds. It put 2 into the vitals of the foam elk at 80 yds. Both would have been in the 10 ring but I couldn't see it at dusk and held too far back. Shooting uphill, down hill, killed em all. It may replace my Guardian as my 3d bow. Just holds like a rock. I was talking to a guy while sighting my 80 pin and he commented how quiet it was. The more I shoot it the more I like it. My set up is: Spot Hogg hunter hogit 7 pin w/wrap, in conjunction with Anchor sight, Kazaway full containment rest, scoil 6" stablizer, quad limb saver limb silencers, Rizer Jax, string leeches on string and cables, and Winn Loop Hook release. Don't think you could go wrong with a GTO.:first:

The only elite bow I have hunted with is my e-500 and it was by far the best bow I have owned. I have killed more trophy animals with this bow than all my other bows combined. I picked up a xtreem xl this winter and love it, I have a buyer for my e-500 but I am a little reluctunt as I think its a good luck charm and I have become attached, but on the other hand I have never had a need for two bows.

I have shot both the Aigil & GTO & love them both. The Aigil is very smooth as well as the GTO. I can not comment on any of the others.

I wanted to comment on the first post asking about accuracy of the GTO, it is as accurate as any other bow i have ever shot and even more forgiving than most also. My 57lb "slower" commander with more brace hight and ATA is less forgiving than my 67lb GTO is! Because of it, i find myself using my GTO for indoor 3D's more than the commander.
