View Full Version : I am a "puncher"

I finally figured out what a "puncher" is today!

Went out to the range to shoot for a bit this afternoon. It must have been the Elite-gods punishing me! I took a non-Elite bow to the range! I know, I know...

I also decided to use my Scott caliper release instead of my Stan! BT release. Just for fun, I've been strictly BT shooting for ~6 months now, I thought I would just try the calipers out.

So, I am shooting, getting the sights adjusted for the different anchor with the trigger-release and things are going well (as well as possible with a non-Elite bow, but hey!) I draw back, and I get about 1/4 the way back and I guess my finger was too close or on the trigger and I actuated the release!! Arrow goes flying and I promptly punch myself right in the kisser! Cut the inside of my lip a smidge. Luckily, I wasn't too far back. But it happened so fast and was so unexpected. I hit myself and I sat there and thought...what just hit me...did I just punch myself? Did this bow just blow-up? Luckily it was total pilot error.

I found my arrow! It was just a little ways beyond the backstop.

Thank goodness there wasn't anyone else there at the range! Whew! What a wanker I would have felt like had others been there on the line when that happened!

Next time, my Elites go to the range... :)

Don't worry mate, there was nobody there and I won't tell anybody so it is just between you and me. Sounds like karma for using a non-Elite.

Good read for this early in the morning Smeag.

Happen to me a few month back here at the house. I didn't hit the trigger but i finally figured out that I never had the caliper totally in the loop and it slid out. Like you I smacked myself in the mouth. Made me feel like a DA!

Punched myself last summer as well, although my D-loop came untied. Never found the arrow. My wife was standing there and said "you missed". Thanks honey!:kicku:

I always knew you couldn't shoot no matter what bow you are using:)

Yea, I forgot to mention the first shot I made yesterday. I had my slider sight on the bow (Sure-Loc Lethal Weapon Max). I guess the last time I had shot that bow with that sight I was shooting at a 70 yard target. The first shot yesterday was at 20 yards. Needless to say, I missed the whole bloody backstop. I found the arrow though!

Oh, and before I even got 1 shot off, the screw holding my quick-disconnect to this bow was loose. So, I didn't even have a stab on the bow!!!

I should have payed attention to the signs, but I was stiff necked and hard of heart! The punch to the face finally woke me up! :)

It happened to me once while on a 3D course. I had tripped and almost went down, catching myself... didn't know I jammed a little dirt into my release.

When we reached the next target my release let go at 1/2 draw, didnt even bother looking for the arrow. Luckily my partners were understanding and let me take a "mulligan". It took me nearly 5 minutes to work the dirt out of my release well enough to trust it again.

Bhahahaha! Ask him if he'd like some cookies to go with that punch! :)

I can make fun, as I am one of them!

Hey, I want to talk to you about the bow I was using when this happened.
