Just got back from the archery shop where I had had a new string put on my XLR. I shot the Presley Midwest Open with what I thought was a string with 1 broken strand but once we removed it found out it had 5 or more. They looked as though they had been pulled apart not exactly sure what happened to cause the failure but I'm not upset just puzzled. If I had known there were more than 1 broken I would never have shot it at the Open. I had called the shop and ordered a new string 2-3 weeks before the shoot but info got lost or something and had to reorder last monday or tuesday and it showed up today and is on the bow no harm no foul just very puzzled by the first string can any of the sting makers on here give any insight into this type of failure.

Just wondering where the strands were broke at? Near the peep? Thanks

Above and below the peep. Checked it for sharp edges ( super peep ) and it was smooth but the strands were actually broken above and below the peep near where the peep was tied in.

How do you transport your bow?
In a case? In a bag?
What other stuff is in the case/bag?

Being able to still shoot with 5 broken strands says a lot for the strength of modern bow strings.

It's always carried in an SKB hard double bow case.

I have seen this before. I you use some of the serving thread like 1D. It is stiffer than nylon, but also seems to be sharper. It seems when you pull it tight it may cut a few strands. We use to use the 1D but found a few cases like yours.

Knots too close to peep causing a steep angle to the strands; too tight knots and abbrasive material could help; not putting the peep in the "true" center of the strand count (I myself build strings all strands same colour), abscence of wax underneath ...
My vote is for knots too close to peep, I tie mine slightly up/down of where the strands naturally come together above and below the peep and never had the problem that puzzles you.
Let us know who´s guilty, I am interested to know your veredict!
Hope it helps,
