GT500 Broadheads YES Paper NO

Ok Dudes,

My 08.5 GT500 has been shimmed (.090" on the string side), timed and is within all specs.

65# (70# limbs), 29" draw, timed on dot#2.

Shooting Carbon Express terminator lite hunters 29" long, 350 spine weighing 450 grains with 125 grain Montec broadheads (or 125 grain field tips).

This thing is the weirdest thing on paper.......it shots a bullet hole from 2-8 feet (either fletched or bare shafts), then shoots an increasingly bad right tear from 10-15 feet.

So i gave up with paper and did some broadhead tuning..........it shoots bang on from 20-40 yards, the only errors are my ones!!!, but when I'm on it's bang on. Should I be concerned??, is this a spine issue?

Try to walk back tune!! This has been the best way I have found to tune any bow.

yeah - thats how I did tune it and I've got it so that broadheads and fieldpoints are hitting bang on.

But........the paper still has a huge nock right tear from 10 - 15'.

I was just interested to see if this is something that I should be concerened about?, whether anyone else has experienced it?, you know - I'm a tinkerer and I'm unsure about this.....

I don't worry about paper tuning with my GT500 because it was driving me nuts. I changed shims but it still won't get a bullet hole unless the CS is well over an inch from the riser and the shaft is pointing way left. When I have it shooting a bullet hole I get crappy arrow flight. If I put my CS at 7/8 I get a nock right tear of about 1/2 inch but have great arrow flight and accuracy out to 80 yards. I don't rely on paper with this bow.

Great news - sorry but this is almost exactly what I have experienced - and your comments make me feel a lot better - as the bow shoots broadheads on a dime!

Thanks for posting, I'm going to stop tinkering with this bow and just hunt it.

i have posted and people have read and told me i was crazy ect....gt-500 paper tune outside and yes it looks weird......but if you group tune or b-head tune you will see the rest comes back to almost dead center......then if you go to the paper it looks awfull/////"but" and i repeat "but" who cares..ive learned this year on two bows,once the set up is done and you go outside forget the paper...the gx is the other bow that is the same principle...so if the bow is grouping and the arrows are flying good.forget all else.....robert

Yep! I just put new strings on my GT yesterday and shot it through paper for kicks...still get a nock right tear of about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch. Took it to the range today to walk back tune. Put a strip of tape down the face of a target and shot 2 arrows at 10, 20, and 30 yards, all lined up down the middle. I only had to make one small vertical sight adjustment and my bow is shooting arrows like a laser beam!

Paper is usually just a starting point for me. I've never worried about it in the end.

Walk back first, broadhead tune second. It all comes together after that.

I guess I'm going to have to learn this now :( I've always paper tuned and then it shot perfect. Just now finding time to play with it. This bow is weird. I can get a bare shaft bullet hole and then the fletched arrow is 1/2" or more right. If fletched is perfect then bare shaft is way off, but also to the right. What the heck? lol. I'm going to walk back tune tonight. As long as the arrow hits where my pin is every time (with BH's or FP's) I reckon it's ok. I sold the QAD and put on a whisker biscuit and it still doesn't tune.

Edit: Scratch this post. Just went and got it to shoot perfect with bare shafts and vanes. It just has to be pretty far out, much further out than the "center" of the shelf, which is good since my vanes were barely clearing the cables. Also, watch out and make sure your arm isn't hitting the string stopper at all, not even touching it. I think that's what was happening with me. I've always believed in paper tuning, and once again it has shown me what i'm doing wrong :) Now even a bare shaft shoots perfect at 15 yards, no wobble in the air. Getting closer... Also, I shot it through paper MANY times, getting it just right, not even a "little" left or right tear. I think most people just shoot till it's pretty close to a bullet hole and then can't be consistent every time, and then go to walk-back tuning? Hmmm....

Mine was EXACTLY the same. I gave up on paper an just shot it.
