Well, someone had to do it.
We have almost a year to plan this, but it will take some time.
We need to pick a location somewhere in the middle area of all that want to attend, pick a time frame, and a place to hunt. Cost should be kept to a minimum, so more can attend. Give me your thoughts, as this is just to get it started. I will attend, and like the idea of Colorado, but will need more info on licensing.

It was mentioned to go to Colo, but seeing how many texans there are here, and the cost of whackin Hogs at some Texas ranches, and the logistical sense a place like afore mentioned is Id think a TEXHOG trip makes sense.
But Id still help if Colo is chosen

So its a next year thing and what do you thing cost should be limited to? I know some guys that have Illinois contacts and the prices were not that bad.
Michael
11-15-2007, 01:23 PM
Don't know about the cost limit, I guess it would depend on what a person could afford. I would like to see a large turnout for this, and cost is usually the biggest determining factor for most. I guess we need to get some comments and go from there.

If several Elite owners would like to go on a hog hunt in Texas I can help with that, Kate and I want to take a trip there anyway.
I have a few friends that own hunting ranches in Texas, will call and get some info. I will see how many hunters they could accommodate and the prices. What month are we going????:D

I can go anytime, but not everyone has that luxury. Hog huntin' in TX sounds good to me. I will be in Florida at the end of the month doing the same thing.
Kevin,
Let us know the locations when you find out. If TX is the spot, I would want to fly in.

Fly in and split rental cars.......Keep the cost down as much as possible. Timing is everything, we have a January rut down here (priorities).

I am flexible. I know several of the Texas folks on here and price will be a big factor for them. I love wackin hogs no matter what state it is in. There is a ranch in Oklahoma that has some good hog hunting. The name is Riverview Ranch I have been there once and enjoyed it. I am not sure about how many they can handle but there was 12 people there when I went.

I am not sure about TX, but the beauty of hunting hogs is it can be done anytime ot the year, well at least Ohio and Florida. The splitting rental car idea is a good one too.

Best time to hunt Hogs in Texas is Late Jan through Feb and very early Mar. I wish the ones on my ranch were more predictable.....It would just cost ya $35 and gas to get down here. I think Hunt N Shoot would be a good hunt or there is a new place that has lots of Hogs and Exotics called Keith Johnson Outdoors. Have heard nothing but good things about his place.

I hunt feb or march every year for hogs in texas. We just need to get a weekend with a full moon. I have a outfitter that does night bowhunts for hogs. All the hogs you can shoot, food and lodging for around $700 for 3 night of hunting. I go from Indiana each year and from here it runs me about $1000. I got 3 hogs last year

Don't want to pee on your parade, but Kevin doesn't sign my checks, so no loyalty from me. Good point, Va has some nice bucks but they are few and far between. The one I shot this year is quite rare cause of the mass. We can get spread and tine length but not usually mass. If a buck goes over 150 here its awesome.

I talked to my friend Stephen Wilson who has Piney Woods Trophy Ranch in Nacogdoches TX about a hog hunt. He said the best time would be late Jan or early Feb.
You can see pics of the lodge and a variety of animals on his site, that place is so cool tons of animals. The price of a two day hunt would be $100 a day for food and lodging and $150 for all the hogs you can shoot. He can accommodate about 9-10 hunters.
I am checking on another place in Chester TX called Hunt n Shoot, I think a few of you have been there.
I also have a friend looking into two other places in east Texas. I'm from Louisiana and lived in Texas for about three years so I know alot of people in the area, will continue to look for us some place to go and hunt.
If someone else can find something at a better price, I'm all for it, let's try to make it affordable for everyone who wants to or that could go. If some can't get away for the first hunt maybe we could do another one later in the year, 08.:D

Well, I started racing MX at the ripe old age of 4 and my whole life was geared at going faster and faster. After that many years of on the edge training, my brain does not function in the woods. MX racers and trees, usually a very bad combination.:D I will more than likely still do Lorretta's and a few Vet MX races through the years, but nothing serious. I have had too many serious injuries that have really started to catch up with me. Thanks for the encouragement, sometimes that is all it takes to get me going again, but I am really looking forward to being a competitive archer and move throug the ranks.

The only problem I see is finding a place that can handle the amount of people we have.
Boazman's can on handle 9 so they are out.

Kevin stated that he had some contacts. Maybe he will come through for us. And also in reality we say we have 20 or so going, but maybe a dozen will make it.

WE have hogs all over our Georgia lease and kill everyone we get the crosshairs on.. I'm always amazed at these Texas, GA, FL ranches with hog problems charging someone to hunt their nussiance animals.. We hunt them year round in GA & FL with no limits, at night, over bait and it's more of an eradication than a hunt..
With that being said.. It sounds like a lot of fun for a bunch of forum guys with Elite bows in common to get together and kill a bunch of porkers

Rob,
There's no way Howie can put that many people up in the mobile home they use for their bunk house unless of course they also use the one across the yard. Proactive thinking on your part nevertheless:D Plus I like the fact that's its only 1H20M drive from the house;)

I got confirmation from the owner of Hunt n Shoot and he said it was possible to carry 23...but probably no more. And they would really stock the pigs before we came, and most likely a group discount. How does that sound?

Under $400 (bring your own food, towels, etc) for 2 full days, 3 hogs, and it is dang near a guarantee kill.....lots of pigs! They do have trophy boars for $350 a day

This sounda awsome I cant wait I never killed a pig before so i might go for a trophy one as it may be my only hog hunt. I am from New Jersey so not very often to go out and kill a hog. Hopefully I have my GTO by then and also bring my envy..

I have been there and pretty much the only way you will not kill a hog is if you don't shoot or you miss. I saw the list on page 9 and I am a positive. I will be there with bells on.
