The little guy is my son, Ryder. He is now 4, the picture was taken when he was 3. He loves to hunt and fish. He made it in the Ohio Outdoor News magazine for his bass fishing ability, which he did not learn from dad. He loves to be outside, doesn't like to watch TV, or video games, which is really cool for me. I am very proud of him for all that he is. He was giving my 17 year old nephew crap about making noise when we were hunting yesterday... you gotta love it when a 4 year old tells you to be quiet! Not really much more to tell about him, to me he is very special, I was not supposed to be able to have children, so he is my little miracle boy.... and my HERO!
Thanks for the compliment on his fishing skill.
Come on guys, don't you have a hero?

You know, as a retired military guy......having appreciate what you do really makes a difference. It is a tough and thankless job that really puts stress on your life. It is one of the funnest jobs I have ever had but on the other hand, I have laid more friends to rest as a result of their profession then I care to recall.
Now I look at the young Americans doing this job and I honestly appreciate everything that they are doing to protect the freedom that so many take for granted.

You know Bruce...In the early 70's my lottery number was 3 when I turned 18 and I was trying to figure out any way I could to avoid going in the service and possibly shipped off to Viet Nam. Before I graduated, Nixon abolished the draft. But when Sept 11, 2001 came I was never more ready to join the service than right then at the age of 46. I have seen several deceased servicemen come through my facility (air freight) than I care to count but everytime I get chills. I thank as many young people as I can that I see in uniform nowadays and support them for everything they do.

I tried everything I could to get into the Marines... no dice (too much metal in the bones), but the Army corp of Engineers welcomed me with open arms. Who knows, maybe I will be over there sweeping the floors and hanging curtains after this is all over.

Don't go! They can't be trusted....let them take care of their own! Shoot me a Resume and I'll slip it in the next time we have an Engineer slot open down here.

I may not have a choice to go or stay. I still have 2 years to go, then I can't be called up any longer.
I would love to send you a resume, but I am locked into Ohio for about 10 more years minimum, and I have a successful engineering firm that I have built up from nothing. Thank you for the offer though.

Sorry about all the blood in the picture. I'm not the whiz with photoshop. He has been going with me since he was 5. He took his first deer at 8 and he looks forward to going hunting every year. If I never take another deer this year my season has been the most successful because my son got his first buck:cool:

Captain Galon Landers Barlow was my hero,, That was my grandfather, He was the son of a rich Sea faring New England family, trained up as a sea captain from generations of sea going captains.. then He found my Grandmother, a poor Irish woman and found his true love in her in becoming an inshore commercial fishing family on Cape Cod instead,,{ Clams, scallops}. He gave up his inheritance, His rich English family, and his training as a sea captain to stay at home, and became a wonderful husband to his poor irish wife and gave joy to generations of happy grandkids like myself,
