Both Pete and I got to try a new product this weekend - the Blind Hog Blind Carry System by Sportsmans Outdoor Products. Pete took his son on a youth hunt in Northern NY and I was down in PA - both in the quest for thunder chickens (his son got one, my hunt was ruined by trespassers who thought walking and calling was a great idea).

This has to be one of the top 10 must-haves for a turkey hunter. One of the things I hate, especially in spring turkey where it can be hot, is trying to pack in my bind, bow, chair, accessories, etc. Normally it's extremely cumbersome and I've either resorted to an ATV or gone and set up the night before. This pack puts it all together - very helpful for those long hikes to the gobblers. The pack is pretty light and includes straps for holding your blind, plus a strap on each of the bags "wings" for chairs, etc. The bottom has a elastic strap for holding decoys in the bottom. As well, there's a padded neoprene strap that goes around the riser of your bow and the bottom slides in a protective pouch (note that an Elite fits great in it), and a separate zippered pouch for calls, etc. The only thing I wish it had was some kind of pack frame to help keep it off my back to stay cool, but the padding in the back allows decent circulation.

I took a bunch of pictures of it in various forms when I got back to camp to show some of the straps and how things are stored in it. It's a great product for the price and saves an otherwise backbreaking walk.

That actually looks like a better product than DB was offering a few years ago. I think it was called the Wild Thing. Nice pics.

Actually Jeff Blacks Creek made the WildThing for Double Bull and they still make it today. Here is mine loaded with everything including the Tom I took on the 16th.

I have had one since they 1st started making them and have still not put anything on my back that even comes close for packing my blind, bow and all my gear.

I have not seen this blind carrier in person but it looks like a lesser mutation of the wildthing. I am always open to give a new product a try though so we may have to see as I put a lot of miles on in a thunderchicken chasing season.

John....I am basing it on pictures really. I like the padding I see on the Hog especially after having two back surgeries. I've never seen if the Wild Thing has that padding. I could have spoken too soon....my apologies if I did.

Im not willing to pay around or over $250.00 for a back pack. I can take my regular camping back and build one before paying that cost.

No need for any apology here Jeff as I was just letting you know that the Wildthing is very much in production. I am not trying to take anything away from this new Blind Hog and as I said if someone shows me a better pack than the Wildthing I will be packing it ASAP.

You mentioned your back surgeries which is all the more reason to be looking at a quality pack.
Any pack that is going to be carrying the weight of a blind, chairs, bow, decoys, calls etc. most likely will need an adjustable internal frame system.

Not everyone is the same size, keep in mind that without being able to customize the frame and distribute the load properly a lighter frame can actually make things seem heavier considering where the pack rides on your back and distributes the weight.

I don't blame you one bit Dan I would not pay $250 for just a back pack either but the Wildthing is in no way an average back pack with all the specialty designed compartments with a turkey hunter in mind.
You can get the Rigg-It pack (same frame as the wildthing but without the wing compartments) for around $135.
As mentioned above it has a fully adjustable internal frame and as you well know not everyone is the same size so adjustability is needed.

Before this thing heads the wrong way let me quote my original post

If you don't pack a blind and all your gear any distance than yes any pack will get the job done. If you cover the ground at times like we do then you will find that the extra support and comfort is actually cheap!

Often time it is about Quality and I know DB blinds cost more but are worth ever penny. We often get what we pay for. Good point that is alot of weight on the back. Not normal to carry that much weight very far.
Im just tight sometimes!

Can the blind and bow be stored at the same time?

I am going to have to get me one of those. I could have really used it last week in MN, hiking up and down the river bluffs. We did get the new MN record turkey with a bow though, so it was worth it.
