Has anyone out there tried the G5 SGH on anything bigger than a rabbit? I was wondering what they would do to a coyote. Good kill or just mess them up?
For grins, I filled a gallon milk jug with water and shot one with my hunting set up, a GT 500, 72 pounds, 29", and a really heavy arrow, that calculates out to 81 pounds KE. I don't know what I expected, but when I hit it, the jug didn't move. I thought I missed, then I heard the "glug, glug, glug" and went to check. It was a very clean pass through. About the same size in and out.
Again, I don't know what I expected. Regardless, what do you think?
Thanks,

all you are going to do is possibly just injure the yote,,,not a good thing, either kill it or let it me, JMHO.

I smoked a big coon with one this year. Stoned him at 22 yards!! I wouldn't use one for a yote though. Broadhead of your choice for yotes even though a perfect shot would probably do it. Kind of like shooting a deer with a 22 cal...yeah you can kill one but it's not the proper ammo!! :)

Yea, I think I agree, not what I wanted to hear, but then again, I wouldn't have asked if I didn't have some doubt. :tapfoot:
We live in the sticks, and the coyotes are thick. We are going to start calving, and I need to get ready. I've shot more than one under 80 yards from the house. But even a Coyote deserves a humane death, and even if I catch one eating a newborn calf (which I have) I want to make sure the kill is quick. I would also hate to shoot one and have the SGH imbed itself in the dog and have the dog run off.

use broadheads or get yourself a .223 rifle

I have shot them with a .22, .223, 22-250, 380, 9mm, .38, .357, .45 ACP, .45 Colt, 30-06, 45-70, 00 Buck, 12 gu. Slug, but have yet to try them with a bow or my 300WSM. Lots of opportunity, and I've been doing it a while.

I always buy cheap broadheads for yotes. I do make sure they fly with my deer broadheads. Put 2 yotes down this year, 1 at 20 yrds and 1 at 36 yrds. Dead before they hit the ground with the cheap heads. Won't risk it with deer, Muzzy's or Grim Reapers only.

Personally I feel a Yote with a bow is an awesome trophy!! They are certainly not the easiest animal to draw on without geting busted!! We don't have them here like we do in Texas but they seem to be getting stronger every year!!

I use to shoot coons out of trees all the time with Judo points....the SGH from G5 would easily take care of that. I have had a few friends that swear that judo's will roll a bobcat too. So I think a 20yd shot with a compound is lethal...i would personally try to cold cock one in the skull....just hate yotes!

It WILL kill a yote.

I agree with Rattler and L-Train, I think it would be a dead yodel dog! Most coyote's aren't more than 8 inches wide and I bet it would penetrate that far if not a complete pass thru. Especially comin' out of a hot rod Elite!

I am a lot less worried now. A guy I just talked to was telling me about what a big exit hole a judo point will make, and these (the G5 SGH) are a bit more than they are. A head shot would sure cold cock one too. Dang things are howling like crazy outside right now.
