Currently I am shooting a 2006 Mathews Switchback LD. The only thing that I do not like about this bow is that it IBO’s at 295. I am shooting at 70# with a 31 DL. The only thing on the string is a D loop and the peep. With 416 grain arrows I get 267 FPS. I time to move up to the binary cam world.

I am going to be purchasing an Elite Xtreme XL, BowTech 101st Airborne or the GTO if the DL goes to 31.

I mostly hunt and shoot 3D. Accuracy is more important than speed to me but if I can get both that would be wonderful.

I will be able to shoot the BowTech 101st Airborne since several of the local Pro Shops will be stocking them; however, my local Elite dealer is not planning on stocking the Xtreme XL or the GTO’s

Normally I always shoot a bow before I purchase. If I go with Elite I will not be able to shoot it first.

The BowTech 101st and the Xtreme XL are very similar. One feature that I like on the BowTech is the roller guard.

What are the pro’s and cons’s of the Elite Xtreme XL and BowTech 101st Airborne. The specs aren’t out yet so I don’t know if the GTO with handle a 31DL

Thanks, Joel

One thing I have always heard from "engineers" is that the roller guard can add some undue stress that really dosent have to be there on the limbs on dual cam model bows. On single cams fine, cause there is less limb and cable movement backwards when the bow is drawn. I am a bit skeptic about it.

besides, this should answer what bow you should buy out of the 2, not IBO:

Barnsdale Limbs or Gordon Glass? Its a no brainer

i can tell you one thing right off the bat...

get the elite and you won't have any limb problems:D

the 8" brace height of the xl should make the the bow pretty dang smooth too-

I don't think anyone can give you the pro's or con's as to either bow, neither one has started shipping, so no one has shot them.

I can tell you that the Xtreme XL has a very smooth draw cycle and aims very well, on the shot the bow just sits in your hand without kicking, jumpimg or vibrating. The longer riser helps in those areas. The Xl uses a 13" limb and a 27.5" riser with only 1.4" of reflex.

The best thing you could do is shoot them both and decide, we might have a dealer in your area by the time they both start shipping so you could compare them.

This might explain why I have heard of roller guard rods bending on the Iron Mace's but I don't know for sure because I'm not an engineer.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but it must mean something when the maker of product in question has the confidence in his product to tell a person to wait a bit and compare his product to another.Nice move Kevin.I didn't shoot my Envy before I bought it and I couldn't be happier.Well until I see the GTO.

No offense meant $mitty. Its just something I read on another forum that a few guys were saying their roller guard rods were bending. That's why I put the disclaimer in about me not being an engineer so I don't know first hand.

This is not a Bash!!

I have a Elite Synergy which is a good bow, but it has had its problems. Everyone here seems to think that Barnsdale limbs are indestructible that is just not true. They make excellent limbs without question but I had my upper limb splinter, and the second set's top limb leans so badly that the string rubs the cam. Never mind I had to bring the riser to a local machine shop to fix the cable guard hole so it would actual tighten down on the rod. I was shooting and the rod flew out at me. Before anyone says why didn't I send it back for the cable rod, I figured my local machine shop could fix it and it would be done right and never happen again. that took 2 hours versus 2-4 weeks.

My point is Elite makes a good bow and so does Bowtech you cant go wrong with either. you can have problems with any of them. I have a Bowtech Allegiance and had Zero problems with it and its been 2 years, and countless shots. I like them both and wouldn't trade them for the world. I just cant stand brand loyalty over honest experiences, who cares about who makes the product. judge the product by design not name.

the only thing I wish Elite would do is fix the draw lengths so they are accurate and not always pulling longer than posted module length.

not to doubt you, but did they bust to pieces or did they have splinters coming up or small cracks. My point on stating this is I hate the term busted or exploded when it is not a limb failure but a start to a failure. No different than the splinters that came up on my Synergy that were the full side length of the limb. If I needed to I simply could have just cut off the splinter and continued hunting and it would have been fine. after the hunt I could be fixed.

I just hate when people refer to ( MY BOW BLEW UP ) when it is the furthest thing from the truth.

it was both...one set splintered and the other set completely busted, nearly hurting my friend...it was amazing that he did not get hurt-

Good post, you are correct, any bow can and will have problems. Mistakes happen. I base my opinion on how the company responds to these issues.

Most all respond favorably too but some take alot longer than others and that probably lends itself to more frustration than anything.

Texas 10 PT, you are correct. In this instant gratification society, you can not afford to put it off. If I have an issue, I expect to be taken care of, as if I am the only customer on their mind. I know that isn't how it works, but you know what I mean. You want to feel like they really care about you personally, and not blowing you off.

I also realize some people blow things way out of proportion. If I would have believed everything I read about Elite and Kevin on AT, I would have never even thought of buying an Elite product, but you get to know people after a while, and realize it is more fanboy crap than truth.

I hope you guys understand what I am trying to get out.

Exactly...especially the part about AT. I read too many times people saying they wouldn't buy an Elite because of so and so. Well who's to say that the top execs at GM or Ford or Chrysler are going to meet your standards. Is that going to keep you from buying from them....heck no. If the product is top of the line and you want it, you are going to get it regardless. I just don't understand the mindset of some people. Does that make sense?

That is what I mean by "Fanboy"! I do love my Envy, and have respect for Kevin and the gang at Elite. I don't know him as a person, but I am sure he is alright. Even if he did some of the things I read about, who cares, he did nothing wrong, he just hurt the fanboys feelings by spilling the beans on the maker of their precious bow.

There feelings are hurt.
Mostly because they are afraid the dont have the better bow anymore.
For sometime the Bowtechs were in a class of there own. Now they have to do what they made everyone else do. pick up the pace. and quality. Not that they are not already. but some guys just get butt hurt over anything. I have owned both and liked both. Just like the Elites a whole bunch more.:D
and if you ask me, yes im a fan of Elite.:D But I am no boy.:p
