I had it for along time. Tried everything to get rid of it. The only thing that worked was a release that worked on wieght; Loesch trubacktension, carter evolution are the type I'm talking about. I use them for everything including hunting now.

what is blank baling?

Its canadian for blank bailing.

Standing close to a target and working on releasing the arrow with proper form, no aiming, trying to use back tension and develop muscle memory so the release is subconcious.

Lanny Bassham Book With winning in mind

Both would be good to get. I use Lanny Audio tapes.

Im currently shooting an Xview scope which is helping me. Not chasing the dot.

I personally think that getting some good instruction whether in person or a good book or DVD is the best thing. They will mostly tell you start with blank bailing (very close with your eyes closed or no sight on the bow). Work to feel the release go off properly and not punching etc., then slowly work your way back on the target using a sight. I practice a lot at 10 yards, this gives me confidence at 20 yards. Also for me I practice holding on the target and not shooting, rather holding as long as I can and then letting down.

spelling check was off and I was yelling at my kid. jeez and Canadian has a capital "C"

Carter Evolution/Revolution.

I found this as part of the solution. Problem is I've seen people tear through these type of releases. I shoot one my self and it helped me through target panic. I've got good news for you crowhunter everyone has some target panic so your not alone. I shoot along side a top ten world ranked fita shooter, Kevin Tataryn and I've heard him say I forced that one. I read a good book by Bernie Pellerite called Idiot proof archery he does a pretty good job of explaing why everyone has target panic and how to deal with it. Spending time with a decent coach is something else I would recommend. Everyone needs something different than the next guy some of my target panic came from equipement selection. I ended up shooting a zero power lens for a year before being able to go back to a 4x. Some times copying the pro creates more problems than it solves because you don't understand the pitfalls they went through to get where they are . jmo

Sorry Eh!

Larry Wise's book.. Core Archery is good too.
You have to really stick with the Evo/Revo, it will show you breakdowns in form. For me it forces me to stay on target and not drive-by shoot.

Gotta go to a back tension, any one will work. shoot at a target chest high, directly in front of you, point blank, with your eyes closed. It might take a week it might take a month. It's the only way. Just feel the release. You'll be able to shoot in your sleep when your done. Larry wise taught me and it works. I had panic so bad a few years ago with a trigger, I couldn't even hit a one spot.

Hey Crowhunter- "Target panic" has become a buzz word for many different things. What exactly are you experiencing when you shoot?

bigdog is right, back tension is the only true way to ever rid your self of target panic once and for all.you need to get some videos or books that show you how to shoot back tension correctly.back tension is not just the style of release,it's how you shoot.it can be shot with any style release including caliper.another thing,in order to shoot back tension correctly your bow has to be set up for your exact draw(be honest and don't cheat)if your actual draw is 27" than shoot 27",shooting correctly is way more important than the 5-10 fps you'll gain from too long a draw.once you learn the proper way to shoot back tension with what ever style release your going to use, don't shoot targets for 1 month.shoot blind bail at about 5 yards, getting the feel of back tension.remember it takes your brain at least 21 days to get out of bad habits regardless of sport.once you learn back tension you can kiss target panic good bye for ever.if you need help PM me.i'm no expert but i did stay at a holiday inn express last night:rockon:just kidding,i have been through several archery classes taught by experts and pros and read a ton of books.DON'T LET TARGET PANIC RUIN YOUR ARCHERY.

Sticshooter is right. you gota have someone teach you. Shooting back tension incorrectly will do you no good. If you know someone that shoots back tension CORRECTLY, watch them and have them teach you. You can still cheat a tru tension with your hand by rolling you fingers or just ripping through the shot. Remember it should SUPRISE you when it goes off. My opinion, the 3 finger is the best. 2 finger harder to get to rotate. 4 finger easier to rotate, can go off quick. Also set it heavy to start so you get your back involved. Lighten it up as you get more comfortable. Good luck.
